1 more newbie
Well, I've been putting off the newbie fish story long enough. I've been enjoying reading everybodies posts with great ideas and learning a lot.
As the story goes.....I had wanted to fish the Metolious River for years having taken up flyfishing in the 90's. Two years ago my dream came true and off to Camp Sherman I went. A freind and I planned a 5 day camp out. I thought I was pretty good at flyfishing and how difficult could a small river like the Metolious be? I went nearly two days with out touching a fish. :depressed: On the evening of the second day I was kind of just looking at the river and spotted something slurping off the surface between two crossed logs. Trying to drift a fly in to the fish was out of the question because of the way the logs layed in the water. I started casting over one of the logs, (losing a couple of fly's in the log) then with what seemed liked perfect timing put a fly on the surface just as the fish came up and BAM! he took it. The fight was on. I could tell from the beginning this was a big fish. After what seemed like an eternity I had the fish near the bank and could see this was a steelhead size rainbow. I hollered for my buddy to get over there with his camera and he started taking pictures of me fighting the fish and when I had the fish in hand ready to pick it up for a quick photo and release he says "shoot, I'm out of film". Well that's ok I have the memory deeply ingrained in my head. Needless to say I had caught the trophy of my lifetime and excited as all get out. Now here's the kicker to this story....two days later......standing in the same place, I look down between those two logs and....yep....fish slurping off the surface. I thought about it for a moment, hmmmm I wonder if this is the same fish? I made a couple of cast over the logs and BAM! Fish on! Same fish! So my first trip to the Metolious.....Score: 1 fish caught twice. I'll never forget or match it, I'm sure.
Keep all the great posts coming and I hope to see some of you on the water soon.
Bob
