Default Does anyone else feel archery equipment is like marine equipment?

My gawd, things are always breaking, 8 days till I start my season and an average day at the range causes 5 hours in the garage fixing things. I have owned only one other thing that breaks as often and that is a boat. If I were rich I would buy new stuff each year, forget about getting multiple seasons out of any archery equipment, arrows, broadheads, strings, sights, you name it.

Brian, you need to buy better gear

I have used the same sight for years, same arrows, broadheads (different blades) and most of my usual gear quite a bit. Granted, I do shoot a few different bows, but I have realized that some good string wax and an allen wrench go a long ways.

This bow stuff is getting too techie! It's hunting!!! I'm using the same stuff that I used in '97. (don't laugh).

It works and I know where it shoots and I don't have to fuss with it.

My next one is a recurve. Then I really won't have to worry about equipment malfunction. Keep it Simple S******

Archery gear is a little touchy for sure. You have this bow all wound up tight with string and then razor sharp broadheads near by waving around. Then there's the cold and ice- pretty hard on this stuff, too.
The more gadgets, the more that can go wrong, but we love gadgets- he he

Yep, better get better stuff. Murphy's law can be a pain this time of year. I shot a 1987 Martin up until 2005. I think that I only changed the string once and that thing still shoots fine. I use it as a back-up/bowfishing bow still. These new bows are certainly much more touchy, which is why I leave the old martin sighted and set-up so I can just grab it and go kill something if my highly technologically advanced bow does something stupid. Fortunately I have not had to do that yet but these threads keep me worried.

I have owned a pse chepo nova for over 15 years I bought the naked frame and put all nice aftermarket components on it. The bow has been bullet proof for me and rarely even needs tunning from year to year and still shoots bulls although I tighten every thing meticulosly and dont have fancy fall aways and a very rudimentry sight. I am hard on equipment(I have to fish with a ugly stick) so I shoot the chepo ugly stick of archery -pse. I been trying to find somthing wrong with it so I can get a lighter smaller one but its still ticking.

I'm still shooting a 1996 PSE Baby G, the only thing which has ever broken on my bow is that piece of rubber tubing connected to the peep. Heck, I've been shooting the same string and bus cables for almost 8 years, I can't say I always wax it, and its still held up.

Thats what I am doing, I have a Marting Cougar Magnum, circa, 2000. My arrows are beeman 330's. So you never had to refletch you arrows, change strings, readjust sights, replace peeps, replace knocks, wax your strings, fix the servings, square your bow? I spent the 5 hours last night just on arrows. My hoard was worked down to two working arrows and one of them was so out of true it hit to the lower left 8 inches at 40 yards. So I had to replaces the vanes and nocks, along with the srew in inserts.

You have to have a work bench with all the gadgets to keep a bow working. Same with a boat. My rifles, don't need that.

I'm doing the older bow, KISS method. My setup is pretty bullet proof. Locktite on all screws, wax the string often, 2315's w/145 grn. zwickey eskimos, 4 fletch 5" vanes. Cat wiskers, detach fuse quiver, doinker stabilizer and big old round peep (no tubing) At 70lbs, it's not a screaming setup, but it is as close to perfect and forgiving as I've shot. Quiet too!
