2008 Archery Rosie Bull (Pic)
I killed this bull on Sunday Evening at 7:00 pm in the Saddle Mt. unit. We spotted him about 800 yards away as he was standing just on the edge of the Re-prod waiting to go into a clearcut. We decided we would jump down the canyon and cross the creek, and try and close the distance and see if we couldn't get him to come to me.
We got to the bottom and crossed the creek, and i stayed about 20 yards inside the timber on the edge of the cut and . we could see him about 80 yards off Raking a tree, and he started in with a series screams......He was hot! I made a few cow calls, and he walke to my right, and i lost sight of him.
I thought he was making his way to me, and i found a good hiding spot behind about a 6 foot around stump and waited. Next thing i knew, he was right there in front of me walking straight at me at about 20 yards. drew back and waited for a shot opportunity which finally presented itself at less then 10 yards. He's a good heavy 6x6
He never even knew what hit him and just walked about 40 yards and fell over! It took us 13 hours to get him out as we were over 5 miles in.
Great way to start 08! i'm headed back up to camp now to help call in a few more for my 2 other buddies the rest of the week, and hope to have more success to share.

Re: 2008 Archery Rosie Bull (Pic)
That's a dandy! Good job. Sounds like the bulls are getting rutty, a co-worker said his brother called in a bull on opening day, but a invisible limb cost him the bull at 25 yards. Big one too. So maybe the cold wet weather is speeding up the rut???? Looks warm this weeks, will it slow down?

Re: 2008 Archery Rosie Bull (Pic)
Awesome Bull!! great story.. nice job on the set up. That bull has very nice forks on the 6 pts but appears to have one small second tine (could be the camera angle though). I would say 275 -280 is a fair score. EXCELLENT

First, congrats- what an awesome bull!!!!
I had to highlight this quote because I am new to elk hunting and watched tons of videos of guy kneeling down in the open and not getting a shot because the bull walked strait to them. A few weeks ago on ifish I asked if I should just try to hide behind a tree and try to get the bull to walk past me and the only answer I got was something about "not unless you can shoot through a tree". It seemed to work in your case. Congrats again- just a beautiful rosie!
