But wait there is more .........

Jennifer with a huge 38lb fish. She is tired but very happy. I had hoped we would have a good first trip for her. Little did I know it would become the stuff of legends....

The wall of woe. Boat record for 'Pilar' at 36 fish but still falls short of the 39 fish day I had on 'Puffin' with Jim Moore and Big Jon. That record will stand for a long time.

Another wall of woe. In August we had to work a little harder and left with a sensible limit. 11 or 12 nice fish.

Tom Anderson aka Puffin's Crew looking rather salty with the nasty Seagar clamped in his teeth. Tom wanted some driving experience and he got it in October off the Columbia River bar. A not so nice day. No fish but a hell of a trip just the same. Our last for the year.

Tuna gear deployed at 9 mph. Carking station at the ready. Somebody forgot to invite the fish. Notice the Billfish, rod removal prevention strap on the reel.

Is this for you, my young Paduan learners?

Does the ocean roar in your blood? Come and meet the gang at the tunaholics meeting. We don't morally sanction, we enable. You will not meet nicer people anywhere, anytime.

Come in out of the weeds you future Salty dogs.

uboatcdr, you will think I am crazy but you will learn to live with it. I am crazy ... like a fox.

'Pilar' is a 19' fiberglass boat that is modified for extended range and extreme reliability. We go 30 miles offshore and we pick our days very, very carefully. Look at the glass ocean in the first few pics. No wind, less than 2 ft swell and no chop. I ran in at 30 mph on the way home.

Don't, stop, don't, stop, don't stop.

'No Quarter' is chomping at the bit to get a little tuna blood on her. She/I won't be ready for this season, but next... .

I've been waiting for a tunaholic meeting for a while now, but alas somebody has to work. I look forward to shaking some hands and raising a pint or two in the future.

Default Find em and Grind em

A little trip down memory lane for the benefit of the new dogs and pups.

'This is what ye have signed for lads .. to chase the wicked fast fish up and down the coast in a small boat.'

Heading out to tuna town, 7/7/2002 on a flat ocean. Jen's first trip to the perimeter and what a day it was.

Put the flag up and Grind them feeeeeeessssshhhh. Heeeeyyaaaa!

My buddy Puffin, he is at his best when he is the Apex Predator.

Uh, Jen, Uh, I think were gonna say 'What were we thinking' later today. Time to call it a day, 36 fish, 720# and sitting very low in the water.

From left to right Jim Moore, Mike Gaynor and Jon Arndorfer, featuring Al-Ba-Core in piles in the foreground. They got 28, we got 36. Not bad for a day when the TUNA! were not here yet.

I have the 'wall' photo somewhere showing the 36 we got but I can't find the 'E' version of it.
