Default I\'ll miss the next halibut, but Baja it is

It is all set (almost). I leave in a month for San Lucas cove halfway down the Baja peninsula. 2 weeks (including drive time) to chase Dorado, Marlin, sailfish, yellowtail or whatever else will bite the hooks. Warm blue water. I only hope that Pilar doesn't catch the first TUNA! before I get back!

WP, are you still going earlier in the month? You will have to send me all the good tips.

Good luck; and remember the key to weathering high temperatures is to remain hydrated. Drink lots of cervasa.

No a/c but a screen tent and a plan for siestas during the warm parts of the day, or falling in the water with my snorkle gear on. Plenty of cervasa on the menu

I'll have to remember to take my password to post reports

I've got a bud who went on a few of those week or so long boat trips down there out of San Felipe. He said you could always tell the new guys. When they stopped and anchored for the first night the "experianced" crew would just break out the small rods and start catching live bait for the next days fishing. The new guys would jump in and go for a swim.
The next morning everybody would start fishing at daylight. For some reason the new guys didn't feel to good after seeing all those big Hammerheads getting caught right under the boat where they were swimming during the night.

fishwhenican-

I've fished out of San Lucas Cove twice, your in for a great time. In a typical year the dorado are just showing up there at the begining of June but the yellowtail have left. My amigo that lives there got into lots of dorado there a month ago, so you should be set there. Take my advice, though, don't stay in your tent. The hotels in Santa Rosalita (10 miles north) are great and cheap ($30 night) including A/C and shower! As for the snorkeling there is two things to remember 1) inside the cove the water is shallow and HOT. I would guess it to be 95+. 2) Look out for stingrays. The small ones live in the cove and some are as small as a sand dollar. All have a hell of a sting from what I'm told and can really ruin a trip. When I go I take some thick soled rubber boots to wade out to the boat, not to keep me dry but to keep from getting stung. A lot of guys will carry their gaff out in front of them, stirring up the sand as they walk.
