Hi Tom, I must admit to being pleasantly surprised by all of my passengers throughout the 6 days in May. Thank you for all of your help and your kind words. Fish camp, wandering around the clam beds and the docks was alot of fun when you were on the crew.

Tom, you are welcome to ride along anytime I can fit you in.

The key to fishing in a fast moving fishery like drifting over stucture is to recover from lost gear quickly. Practice at knot tying can lead to much more bottom time for your bait and increased success. Some guys use more than one rod, rigged and ready to go to make sure they have something to drop on the fish. But for most of us this is an expensive option.

So you can do what I do by having some proficiency at knot tying. You can also have rigs premade ( I make most of my own terminal tackle ) and use the simple setups that go together quickly.

Practice makes perfect Tom. Try the Uni, Albright, perfect loop and Bimini Twist.

This site has a number of animated knots and other boating related info.

Palomar for spectra to swivel or hook. I use it in mono too. Quick, easy, and strong. I would rather have a 95% strength not that I tie correctly 100% of the time than a 100% strength not I get right 95% of the time.

If you use the loop from a Bimini Twist to tie a Palomar, would that increase the strength of the knot?

Thanks

I prefer the double-palomar for spectra lines. Same as a regular palomar, but after doubling the line through the eye, loop the doubled line through it again....I'm slowly working my way to the uni-knot though....

Ok, on the subject of knots...you folks are gonna hate me for this...

This rope walks into a bar...asks for a beer.
"I don't server ropes here!" the bartender states angrily.

Frustrated, the rope leaves. The rope, craving a beer, wraps himself up like pretzel, and frazzles one end of himself.

He walks back into the bar....asks for a beer.
The bartender raises one brow and asks......"Hey, aren't you the rope I just kicked out of here?"
The rope replies..."I'm a frayed knot!"

Default Pilar, You the Knot Man!!

Pilar,
First of all , I would like to Thank You for the open seat last Thursday. It was a delightful experience. I learned quite a bit from you, herring jigging , boat rules, knot tieing , mooching etc. You said there is a site I could go to and get a good instruction on how to tie the uni-knot. I am left handed and knots seem hard to tie for me. they are just backward. I watched you intently tie the various knots Thursday and I hate to say it ,but, still a bit lost. I can see by your speed that you are accomplished at knot tieing. If you have a good site where they have a demonstration, I sure could use it. It would make a better fisherman out of me. Thanks for everything. I plan to make the TA meeting5/30/03. Tight Lines , Tom
