As I dont have a boat where can a guy go to catch a salmon? How is it off the jetty? Or should I be further in?

Basket - From the bank you're better off fishing the fresh water I'd be heading up the Trask if I was you. Check the main board!

Baskett,

I might try to fish for lings and sea trout off the jetty....if you want to target chinook, Miss B. is right -- you'll have to head upriver. A few people toss spinners and eggs off the bank by Mamaloose Point in the upper bay -- in fact, I saw a guy hook a native steelhead there last weekend, but generally they aren't very successful.

The Hospital Hole is closed, so you really don't have a good available tidewater bank spot on the Trask.

good luck

Baskett: I went out Wednesday on a charter for bottom fish. There were seven of us plus the skipper, Jon Brown, and his son Jeff, on the Kerri Lin out of Garabaldi. We went South after leaving the jaws, down past the three arch rocks and then out a little ways to about 120 to 180 feet of water. We caught 84 fish and had 31 keeper crabs. The fish were mostly black sea bass, a few Canary Rockfish, a few Green Tail Rockfish, and a few Ling Cod. I caught two keeper Ling Cod, one was of the green variety. We caught several that were too short also. We could have been back in by about 9 AM but the skipper wanted more water to drain out of the bay. They had minus tides there early in the week and low tide was about noon on Wednesday. The ocean was great - just some nice, gentle swells. All in all I thought it was a very good day.

Yesterday while driving along 101 just before Lysters I saw a small boat on fire out in the jaws. The Coast Guard was there wetting down the fire and seemed to have everything under control. Just hope no one was hurt.
