Default Archery Antelope

Just got back from my archery antelope hunt. What a great time! We did a tremendous amount of scouting via telephone calls to ODFW, OSP F&W, Friends who hunted our area before, and looking at maps. Nothing beats good old ground pounding but the cost of gas and we only had one day to do that. We found what we were looking for and prepared for a 4 AM wake up call in the wall tent.

I wanted to spot and stalk but the terrain didn't allow for much concealment and the fact that the rifle hunts got first crack on these animals forced me into a blind over water. I left the truck before light to find my spot and noted I left my bino's in the truck as it left. I was hopped up and down mad as I could radio him back. That meant not much long range field judging. Lucky 30 minutes in the blind and a no brainer walks in 30 yards away with a bunch of does. I couldn't get a shot. It's amazing how loud they are when drinking water. Finally as they started to leave the buck took one more drink which was all I needed as the rest were clearing. 30 yard double lung shot....100 yard death sprint and I was done. I broke him down and hauled him out in one heavy pack out with the badland 2200.

PullShootExplode also hunted with me and we have more great stories. He also arrowed a great buck 4 days later with the pressure on. (I'll get permission before I post a picture of him and story) Get fun and can't wait to do it again!

Great Job, I just spent the last two days hunting them with a smoke pole. Fun hunts but few bucks where we were. We managed to tag out but with nothing to special

That is a great buck. Killin it with a stick and string makes it even better.
