How high to mount 8' VHF antenna?

I have a aluminum jet with a semi hard top, Custom Weld Cobra SE. The top is textile, but the frame is plenty sturdy. I don't plan to remove the top completely.

Should I mount the 8' VHF antenna on the roof or in the side of the windshield where most people mount them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The higher you mount it the longer your range.

Where are you going to use it?
If you aren't fishing further than 8 miles from shore the window should be fine. If you fish further than 8 miles out the higher the better. VHF is pretty much line of sight and the higher your antenne the further your effective range. Big swells will effect your range too.
Also keep in mind that you have to tow that boat and consider how you plan to make everything ready to tow. For now mine is mounted as far up my hard top wall as possible but I just ordered my new set of rocket launchers with outrigger mounts and opted to get cockpit light mounts and antenne mounts. I think it will look great and maybe improve my range. I am also considering dual antennes.
