Default BLACK ROCKET in Depoe Bay

This morning we checked with the CG at 5AM, the Depoe Bay Bar was restricted but only to rec boat 26' or smaller, so we were off! Right to the ranch. Took a moderator (Waterdog), guess it was his first trip hope he posts! He's got his! 39 miles to the ranch, ave return speed 40 mph GREAT OCEAN. Hope you had a good time Waterdog!!!!

Rich - where is the rest of that fish

Glad you got into your first halibut

Pilar told me Purple and black makes a great tuna plug, do you think we could dangle a hook off your toes while you "ski" (I really mean troll) you at about 7 mph a little later in the summer

Thank you Capt. Kujo!!!

Man what a ride. I figured I'd be beat to death running 30+ mph in the big blue. Boy was I wrong. The boat is a pretty smooth runner. We even caught air a few times and the re-entry was cake. Only thing that is sore is my sissy forearms from reeling in fish and empty hooks from 600 feet deep. I dont know how you salty dogs do that for 3 straight days. You guys are my hero's.

Also want to say that the thremals and dry suit are sweet. I was warm and toasty all day.

Took one fillet and put her on the BBQ for dinner. Dang if that wasnt some of the finest fish around. You guys better watch out because I'll looking for a seat in the future.

Roy - I guess as long as I got that suit and if that's what it takes to get in on a tuna run. I'm in!

All of the sudden I think I got 8 footitus.

Thanks again Kim and Lynn

Capt. Kujo,

Nice to meet you and check out the Black Rocket, what a Machine!! Glad to see the run to Depoe was worth it.
I understand your frustration with the CG, a long time charter operator/skipper out of Winchester Bay had similar issues. He ran great boats and knew the bar better than they (CG) did. After many meetings the CG could only recommend not crossing, not prohibit him. I hope you get the "documented vessel" issue resolved.

See ya in June, Kurt

Hey Kim,

I'm pretty sure the CG cannot stop a "commercial" vessel from crossing the bar. You are engaged in a business endeavor and are a "commercial" boat. Also, you are a licensed Merchant Marine Officer and they cannot stop you. Check with a good maritime lawyer and then have a conference with the CG station Commander. This issue came up before with the Irish and they resolved it in his favor. A six pack is a commercial vessel.

Well that's what I thought, but Commander Dodd at Newport says he can restrict the bar from "uninpected commercial boats". I went to depoe bay on Saturday, once out I heard the report from Yaquina Bay, restricted to recreational vessels 26 ft and under "including uninspected passenger vessels." But recreational vessels 40' or great can go???? It doesn't seem right. well Depoe Bay works out well for us.
Thanks for your input.

I read about the last minute decision to depart out of Depoe. The boat looks pretty empty in the photo. I wonder if I'd showed up if there would of been a spot for me. That dry suit wouldn't have been there waiting for me though. Brrrr.
