Default Sandy River info/help??

A buddy and I were planning a trip to the Cow, but it sounds like it'd be a waste of time. Instead, we're thinking of hitting up some new water. I've got a sled and he has a driftboat, so it's most likely we'll drift since it'll be new water.

I'd appreciate any info as far as boat launches, good drifts, etc. We're coming from Yakima, WA and have crossed the mouth many of times, I just haven't ventured around that river much.

Thanks in advance.

rola76.

If you are going to bring your sled, Lewis&Clark boat ramp would be where you want to put in at. You said you have crossed over the river from the freeway many times right? I assume you will be comming down 84 west. To get to Lewis&Clark, take the exit before you cross the river, {not sure of the exit #} follow the road couple hundred yards up, and the ramp is on the right hand side. This will be the only place you can launch your sled.

If you are going to take the drifter, you can head up to Dabney. Take same exit off the freeway, and head up past Lewis&Clark, go maybe 3 miles, and Dabney state park will also be on right side of road. It will cost you $3 to launch there, and you can float easiley down to Lewi&Clark. You can also head up to Oxbow and float to either Dabney, or Lewis&Clark.

To get to Oxbow, take first exit past the river{exit #17 I think} loop around the truck stops, and head south up 257th. Follow 257th up to Division street and turn left at the light. From there you can follow the signs to Oxbow. It will also cost $3 to launch, and remember you can't fish from the boat until you go under the powerlines a mile or so down river. If you have expierience on the oars, this is also pretty tame water to navigate. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to PM me. Good luck, and go get em.

Last I heard, the road was closed between L&C and Dabney because of a landslide. It may have opened by now, but you might want to double check.

If you put in at Oxbow you can't fish out of the boat until you get below the power lines. Which are a couple miles downriver. That said there is a lot of great drift fishing water up in the park. Also bobber and jigs. I prefer to spend my time drift fishing up in the park. Sandy is a great river and the brrodstocks are just starting to get there in force. Good luck.

All roads leading to Oxbow are open. River is rated novice from Oxbow Park downstream. Remember gates are open 6:30 am until legal sunset daily (5:50 pm right now), Shuttles are available on the Sandy to take your rig down to a lower ramp if you're drifting, no pets allowed through gates into Oxbow and fish are bieng caught in the park and both upstream and downstream. Camp in the Campground at Oxbow if you're looking to stay overnight.
