Default Rod & Reel

Could someone make a good recomendation of a rod
and reel combo for both Halibut and sturgon? I just got my new Hewes  and need to get some more time under my belt before I can go out in the big blue.
The sturgon side would probabley get more use untill
I'm ready thanks.

Ugly Stick Tiger, 7', in both 20-50# and 30-60#. Regularly 54.95 at Joes. Both would work for sturgeon, the heavier one for Hali's.

I second the 7' tiger stik, I like the med. action for both hali's and gator. Penn 340 GTI
spooled with 80lb tough line will cover you for both. This is a set up for both oversize sturgeon and anything you could hope to catch in the big blue. I also use a lighter set up for keepers and astoria. Berkely buzz ramsey 15-50 back bouncer with a calcutta 400 spooled with 50lb spiderwire.

It is an 18' sportsman, with the 80 horse 4 stroke
yamaha, 10 horse honda kicker. I have the Furuno
GP1650f GPS ploter with fish finder and 2800 lb
trailer. So far I really like it. I looked at the
20 searunner realy nice but just could not pass up the deal on mine. I saw your post on your new one, Very nice. See you on the water.

I also have several of the 7 foot ugly sticks. I use them on tuna trips as well with a Penn 113 loaded with 30 lb line. It is a darn versitile outfit and hundreds of dollars less than two speed reels and fancy roller guide rods. Not that I wouldn't like those! I'm too busy spending boat dollars on keeping my 30 year old boat happy.

If you don't mind spending a little more money on a rod, you might look at the Lamiglas Sturgeon Special. I have the 7 footer, extra heavy, and like it a lot. I use it for oversize sturgeon and used it last weekend for halibut. I fished 46oz of lead with no problems. I have a Penn 340 on it with 80lb Tuff.

I like a Ugly Stick Tiger 30-60 lb rating $55
with a Penn 330 $85
80# Power Pro 400 yards $46
Total $186

Works great for Halibut, Peelers and Tuna maybe just maybe Mr. Bill?
