Default Just over the ridge to the east

I tossed and turned all night

anya said that i was just too fired up to get out and explore
she was probably right

she usually is

i pulled the plug from the muffler and readied my ride

checked the oil

made sure my tire pump was fastened to the side, plenty of tarred rope plugs to shove into punctured tire walls for flats

poured and extra 2 liters of gas into an old pop bottle so i’d have a little extra to get home in case i get off the path

charged my camera battery
loaded my revolver to shoot cans up in the middle of nowhere

ran into another guy that had the same idea.

dave!

dave's sweet bike.

we we re up on the e fork of the lewis river on a day that was leaning towards fall

not too many other folks up there, just the rush of water from a canyon

a sunbather

and a few fellow artists

easels set up and canvas stretched right

i didn't ask dave why he was out riding

we just both understood that it was time we wouldn't ever get back
so i reckon we both decided to do what we love to do

we are drawn to the temple

where a church bell never chimes

other folks get it
they understand it
some are moved to create

inspired by the greatest of creations

i brought my revolver along to shoot some cans

i found a couple and set them up

a doe and a fawn crossed the stream right next to me, so i waited

i listened to how the water sounded over the washed stones

i thought about how long that sound must have been in the little canyon

longer than me

probably a lot longer than you too

finally i decided that it was too peaceful a place for me to disturb with the blast from a .357 mag

so i packed it up and decided to let the forest remain quiet

parked the horse and set up

for a couple of quiet shots
the water was gentle and the woods were calm

there are places that should be burned deep into memory

reckon they become a part of a spirit
so you have to return in order to really become a good spirit

there are spirits all over this place

some are very old

i wasn’t sure what it was that called me to this place
but i knew i had to be there

i had to get over that hill that rises higher than any other on my horizon

today i did.

Yep, and in about 1967, my father latched into an 18 lb steelhead that just about spooled him at the lower portion of the end of the falls.

He said, that he thought he was hung on the bottom, so he pointed the rod up over his shoulder and walked away up the bank to break it off with no load on the rod...

3 times he tried,

finally,, whoom whoom whooom... it took off like the Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull!

Really a nice spot...too bad we'll never be able to fish it.
