Default Can I trust them?

I was so looking forward to using my new Okuma 2spd this last weekend halibut fishing, but things didn't work out too hot for me. After driving the boat most of the day while my friends fished I decided to give the new reel a rip. Well as luck goes as soon as I hit bottom I proceed to swing the line into the prop and loose about half of my brand new 80# Tuff Line. After paying $55.00 to fill it a week ago now I need to fill the bad boy again. I can't afford to strip it all down and start over, but want to know how well a splice works and if I can trust Fishermans to get it right?

All I need is another halibut trip like last weekend. Fished out of Garibaldi with a boat that barely ran all weekend, one fish for two days and a buddy with two broken ribs.

I'm still pushing blood knots for this splice. Unless I missunderstand the double uni's, the tuff line crosses itslef at 90 degrees. That stuff is too much of a cutting edge to do that and be the best knot. I like the slow spiral type pressure knots for it.
I CAN be convinced but I gotta play with it first... note to self... knot test to do list.

Keta's suggestion here:

http://www.outdoorsite.com/knots/knot8.cfm

Doubling the end of each line, then tying it up makes it stronger.

Try a few, then tie it up yourself at FM and let them fill away.

I've spliced two together with a blood know without problems. Especially with 80lb, I'd think you'd be fine with halibut.
