My Halibut Pics
Well here are the pictures of Friday's action here on the S.Coast. I thought the weather was average until I went out on saturday. I thought the weather was great on friday in comparison. Anyhow, here they are. We also had a whale jump completely out of the water about 100 yards in front of the boat on saturday. Quite a site but kinda un-nerving when thinking about the size of your boat.
Double hookup!! We had four of these during the day.
The whole lot, 5 'butts (38,42,45,47,54) and 10 lings. It took us 30 min. to get 9 lings stopping at the reef on the way home. We lost several others at the boat also.
Mark with the biggest fish of the day at 54" Mark is 6'4" for a comparison.
And finally Port Orford sling for those who haven't seen it.
Turned out to be a great day and met quite a few Ifishers who made the trip.

Re: My Halibut Pics
Hey Tailchaser,
Congrats on the Butts and Lings.
How far out of Port Orford were you?

Re: My Halibut Pics
The halibut were about 21 miles from PO (17 miles directly west of Cape Arago) and the lings were from the reef located just northwest of PO 6 miles from the docks.

Re: My Halibut Pics
I was albacore fishing out of Morro Bay last year and a boat got hit by a breaching humpback. Threw the captain overboard and he drowned in foggy weather. Totally flattened the boat. Amazing!!!

Re: My Halibut Pics
Had intended to wait till season was over to post these, but the way the weather's shaping up, it may already be over. sigh.........
Day one, chicken soup, 3 x small = about 45# of halibut and one decent ling.
Day two, a little better.
60+ and 30+, had a big red angry octipus alongside the boat, while trying to figure out what to do with him, he let go and went home. 14 dungys too (not pictured)
Day three, three sore keysters, got within 5 miles of halibut hill only to be turned away by horrible conditions. 8 dungys (not pictured).
Was kinda nice to go back to work for a few days to get rested.

Re: My Halibut Pics
Hey, you did okay - there's fish in the locker.
I like your boat. The off-shore bracket looks pretty sweet. Is it a 12 or 16 degree Vee, or more? Air-ride seats?
Saturday was the same up north, Hammer-Time Big-Time! My kidneys still haven't forgiven me.

Re: My Halibut Pics
Thanks Skein! It has 16 deg deadrise at transom, and 30 deg at the bow. Cuts the water great if you hit it right. Nontheless, no one can hit it right all day.
I wish air-ride seats. What's something like that cost anyway? We broke a 1/4" hinge rivet on the passenger seat on Saturday. I'm guessing they must be 'break-away' rivets that give right before a vertebrae. Ugh!

Re: My Halibut Pics
M-Y,
That is a nice looking boat. I am jealous of the off shore bracket. Thanks for the pics, really enjoyed 'em.
