East Lake - Trophy Brown Report
Headed back to East Lake for another shot at the good brown trout fishing going on this summer. It was not as fast and furious as it was 3 weeks ago, but we did land 21 browns between 3 of us fishing for just shy of 2 full days. The hot lure was anything that looked like a chub. Kokanee and rainbow patterns hardly got hit. We were blessed with 2 trophy fish this time and both were released after photos. Mine was 28 inches and 9+ lbs, caught on a chubby looking Super Shad Rap, and Jordan's was 29 inches, 7 1/2 lbs, caught on a gold Bomber Long A. BWild fished with us and caught the most fish, but lost his big daddy after a couple minute fight.
Tight Lines,
Dan

Re: East Lake - Trophy Brown Report
Most guys rule out the big brown fishing in the summer time, but it has been very consistantly good the last few years that I have been doing it.
I didn't mention that we saw multiple BIG browns breaking the surface in the mornings, including a fish that was easily 15 POUNDS! which came 3 feet out of the water!!!! That'll get your blood pumping...

Re: East Lake - Trophy Brown Report
I saw you pull in that nice 28" was a beautiful fish. Glad to hear you guys pulled so many fish. We ended up catching a couple nice 3 pounders during our stay.

Re: East Lake - Trophy Brown Report
I appreciate seeing the browns that are in East and how you have them dialed in. I will only use a fly rod and streamers and do ok Spring and Fall. My pontoon boat has been towed but nothing like your big browns has come to hand. Big flies, sinking lines and fast strips do ok but not close to your success. I would like to figure it out a little better. Some expermentation is required, any suggestions?

Are you sticking solely to the fly rod?

Re: East Lake - Trophy Brown Report
Yes, I will stick to the flyrod. I am 66 years old and gone thru all the "fishing stages". Now, it's all about finding challenging ways to catch fish. With the right line I think I can get down to where the big browns are and I know they will take big streamers. It's the presentation that's difficult. Just how deep must I get, what action to put on the fly, how fast must it move to make them excited. could I get them any time of day, lots of issues and challenges. I can't be as effective as the posters on this thread. I really respect how they have worked to dial in those browns better than anyone I know. I just think that a flyfisherman with the right equipment and presentation should be able to catch a few of those big boys. It will be fun trying.

I think your toughest problem would be covering a lot of water. Most of us fishing for browns will be on the water all day except for maybe a small break for lunch. Dan almost never takes a break and has his lures in the water from a hour before sunrise til a hour after sunset. Our goal is one over 5 pounds in a weekend. That's a pretty tough goal when fishing with lures. I would recommend finding a spot on the lake that you know holds browns and fish it hard. There is no way you can cover the same area as we do trolling plugs but you could cover one area with your fly rod foot by foot and have a good chance at a brown. Good luck on your quest for a trophy brown on a fly. Don't know if you read any of Denny Rickards books but they have a lot of information on fly fishing lakes. A good read even if your not a fly fisherman. Just my
