Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
What a great inagural trip on Sea Lion.
Day one we fished on Pilar as I had a few minor problems with the main motor and refused to take it out till they were solved.
Day 2, 3 of the 4 members of Team Bad Halibut put the first Halibut blood on Sea Lion
Drifty with Fish on!
Da fish...
Bait Boy with a Halibut on ...
Bait Boy's fish
And the first fish caught on Sea Lion during the 2003 Halibut season by the Captain, Mr. Fisherman...
I'm sorry we didn't get pics for day 3. The South wind picked up and we got blown off the pond. I was impressed with the way my boat handled the water in those conditions. To sum up the day BOE caught a nice 42" Halibut. After that it was just too rough to fish.
The experience of taking my boat that far out and bagging these fish was one of the finest I have had the pleasure to enjoy.
Thanks to all who came aboard or stopped by.
Both crews were great and welcome anytime.
Everybody was very helpful and had a great attitude. I look forward to round 2 in a couple of days.
We'll see you there....

Ray,
That is very good to hear that you and your crew enjoyed the time out there .
I know that I for one am going to begging and pleading you to take me out on the blue pond next year. Hint Hint...
Looks like three happy people in the pictures to me.

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Ray, I am proud of you brutha! . Nice photos and good head on the skippy of 'Sea Lion'. The broken boat stays at the dock is a sometimes a tough call to make and you did it without hesitation. BTW, you can ride with me anytime you want and I have a spot open. I would hate like hell to break up team 'Pilar'.
I only put one flattie in my boat on my first rodeo. You beat that by a mile with 4.
Ahhhh, 'but then there is later this week......

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Ray,
This is weird. I used to own a 22' Sea Dory that looks like it might now belong to you! Did you buy it in OC at the Marina? Same Suzuki motor and everything! Came with a 15 horse Suzuki Kicker, but I kept it.
If not--nice boat! You'll love the way they handle in the open ocean, and talk about fuel efficient! What'd ya burn on the trip?
Good choice!

Mr. F,
Just got back from BiMart with the replacement for the broken backup rod. Love BiMart!!! No questions, just handed me the new rod! It did cost me a chunk of fish though
I have extra rods and reels again and will be over to Newport again due to a delay in the job startup

Hey Mr. F,
See, I told you it looked pretty good out on the water.
Tell you what I'll do. Next trip you go with Pilar and I'll take the Sea Lion and you can see what she looks like on step.
What are friends for?

Way to christen the new boat Ray, with Hali blood! Would have liked to visit with ya more. All ways so much to do and not enought time to do it. I never got down to see Bruce either.
I'm think I'm done with hali until August when we'll be in a bigger barge. Might come down and visit with ya'll this week though.

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Tom, I tried to get ahold of you for open seats but your numbers are at work.
I need that rod and reel that Keta loaned you no later than Tuesday night. I may have a last minute seat and will keep you posted.
Do you have a cell number?
Can you send your contact info or just drop it by with the rod this evening or tomorrow?
Thanks Tom. I hope you are able to get out.

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Hook up, for the record this boat has never had a skunk stripe that I am aware of . I caught my first Springer in it on my first serious trip out fishing, caught my first herring on the first drop and brought a 42" Halibut up on the first trip out. I love my fishy boat and hope I don't jinx it.
Wildhawg, No, this boat used to belong to the Harbor Master for the Port of Portland and I bought it from a broker. It came pretty much as you see it but I have added redundant bilge pumps (3), Furuno electronics (Color DF, GPS, FF) and Radar, Force 10 Cozy cabin heater, a couple of Scotty rod holders and some other odds and ends (3 extra fuel cells, fishing stuff etc...)
O' City Fisherman, I am paying back rides as fast as I can but still have a long list. I will keep you posted and sooner or later we'll get you out if ya still want to go. Have you ever been 36 miles out before?
Rod, I hope so too but I don't like the forecast or the trend. It may wind up being a party on the dock. Time will tell and I will be there to put my hairy eyeball on the situation. Keep in touch.
Johnboy, I couldn't have done it without you. This is all your fault you know... Buying a salty boat and going out into the Pacific blue water to bang fish. The first time I saw you and Krystal Flash in that picture holding Halibut in front of Pilar I thought to myself, That guy's *******' nuts! I wonder if I can get a ride? Well I got my ride all right... Are we sick or what?
Dave, you are welcome several times over. You forgot your crabs and that half rack of refreshing adult beverage on the dock by my boat. I noticed it was not your prefered flavor. It was not necessary to do that but thanks anyway. When are you going to join me on Sea Lion?
Roy, I am glad we were able to dispell the Urban Ledgend of the fishless Roy wonder. Maybe Pilar's theory holds water? When are we going again? When do you want your Shrimp pot back?
Stoygen Princess, it was great watching the two of you out there with a double on. I got a kick out of seeing your dog on the motor cover calling up fish. I'd fish with you guys anytime.
Skein, when you get that new boat you are on. Just hand me the keys
Fishplay, Thanks. So what, you need a bigger party boat? I hope it works out for you. See you out there..

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Ray, all the party was done on shore and at camp the night after or the night before however you wish to look at it. No party on my boat.
There were three cans of beer and three fishermen on board all weekend (the same three cans I might add) in case we nailed a huge one and wanted to celebrate.
Unfortunately, that never happened.
I do have it on good authority that the new boat was, in it's hayday, a partyboat and a fish killin machine.
We'll be seeing you out there soon.

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Ray,
I got your message too late. I left my home phone with you a couple of weeks back. You can always leave a message. I talked to Lee already. I was going to go to get his Rod and reel where I have it stored, but He said later would be OK. I will be down Wed. afeternoon to help with getting herring with Johnboy and Keta.I was going to go to garibaldi to get it ,but it would have me getting to camp. late. They said they would have gear for me to use. Dang it!! I should have scheduled today off so I could go get it for you to use. Sorry Ray. Tom

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Ray-
The crabs and the beverages were intended for you and crew. I purchased the brand you were gulping the night before intentionally.
Good luck this weekend. I'll stop by if I make it down. I'm staying home unless the ocean lays down a bit.

Re: Sea Lion, Carnage Alota
Dave,
I figured that out all by myself you skalliewag! What kind of guy makes you pull his pots AND his friends pots AND makes you keep the crab that they caught AND meets you at the dock with a half rack of cold beer (that isn't his favorite flavor) offers ya' a "Thank you very much", and a handshake? I'd say Crew
Salty Dog Crew that is
It really wasn't necessary and I forgot all about the crab till after you left or you would have found at least half of them in your cooler. I've been known to "freshen up" the "ice" in my crew's coolers.
How is your ice?
