Default How Much Fuel For the Ranch?

I want to hit the ranch in our 22' Dory. We have put a 90 horse on the boat and I do not know how much more fueleit burns than the old 70 we had on it. When we had the 70 we would fish the Rockpile and the Jobsite all day from daylight to dark and still have about 1/2 tank with out packing fuel.

Does anybody that ran out there with a 90 horse or a 120 have the amount of gallons that they burned?

I have never sport Butt fished and want to get some meat in the freezer.

Thanks
Joe

I wouldn't make the run with less than 40 gallons in a rig like you mention, and would be much more comfortable with 50.

You need to know BEFORE you go!
Make a run with full tank (s)
log the miles, hours and conditions.
Fill the tank (s) back up and calculate the mileage for the conditions. This will likely be your best case mileage. Conditions change and can and will have a drastic effect on your mileage. Wind direction and force, swell, everything that goes on out there. Plan your trips acordingly. Also, if you have a 2 stroke DON'T FORGET THE OIL or the fact that you have to add it if you have oil injection. This can be tough in a chop.
Good luck and be careful out there...
I hope this helps as it was the same advice given to me when I started planning to make my first run. I just did last week and it was a great experience. I hope you fare as well....

It realy hard to get an estimate from someone elses boat even if it has the same engine. The only way to know for sure is take all the gas you can and gauge by gallons per hour.

I run twin 225hp at 40 mph out to the "chicken ranch". I burn 51 gal of fuel round trip and that's with 2 engines. Some people I know burn 70-80 with 1 engine. So "GO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW"
