Default Epic Day 8-23-08 Newport

We left the dock at 4;30 am.The plan was to head on a 280 heading approx 40 nautical miles(53x55).We hit 61 degree water at the edge of the Pig or Windy Island. We droped in and trolled NW across the pig.The action started off slow with a couple of peanuts.Once we reached the outside of the Pig the water warmed another degree and the rods started popping out of the outriggers. We had constant action until about 11;00 am.The boats started coming out of the woodwork and the fish went down.We trolled SW from the pig and found a nice edge wear the water went from 61 to 63.5 degrees. We worked this edge for another two hours and filled the other big fish box.The fish hit everything we threw at them.We fished 7 rods two on each out rigger one on each corner and one shotgun down the middle with a mini Archer bar.We also ran two short hand lines on the corners.85% of our fish came on the rods.We found out exactly how many fish it takes to fill the masive fish boxes on the new boat.It was a great day with the best of friends and my wife who did a fantastic job of running the boat all day.One key thing was we slowed down to about 6 knots, she did a great job of adjusting the speed and direction.Several times the rods would go off on a turn or when she had slowed. It was an epic day with an awesome ocean the boat never slowed or acted like it had a load.We ran in at 26 knots tons of birds and life we stopped just inside of the weather bouy and watched a spot where the water was boiling with bait. This was the kind of day we all live for.Rick

Enjoyed talking with you saturday. What a day! Big fish, nice ocean. Tried to let you know we were calling it a day but couldn't raise you on any of the channels.

Pink "Eat me" lola seemed to be the color of the day for us.

...and that number would be?

Remind us how big your fish boxes are and the size range of the fish you filled them with.

Sounds like a fantastic day.

Thanks for the report.

It would be fun to see how many Tuna Rod and AJ equal.

Congrats on the great day!

I would say we had a 18# average.I do not like to post numbers. The fish boxes are quite large.

You know, that number will change with changes in fish size... to be more accurate, more 'fillings' should be done to determine a true average "full" capacity Guess you'll need to go out a few more times, for accuracy's sake of course
