Default Garabaldi Halibut

What happened to the Halibut out of Garabaldi??? I have fished out of Garabaldi for Halibut for 6 years and have limited the boat probably 90% of the time.

I fished the opener and today. Nada, nil, zilch for both days. My dads boat-nada, nil zilch, my two buddies boats (who are very good fisherman) nada, nil, zilch. I know that a few fish were caught but for the love of cookies, it sucked.

You know it is bad when the charters do not roll into port until 6:00 pm or later. I talked with the captains of the Oakland Pilot, SigiG, Taki Too, Big Dipper and the Herbie, not one boat limit. I also talked with the fish checker, his stats 65 boats check (yes boats, not rods) 39 fish. That is as poor as I have EVER heard of for Halibut.

I hear that Newport did well, I guess I will have to get the trailer out of storage and pull the boat out of the water in Garabaldi, can anyone email me the halibut coordinates for Newport. I would be more than grateful. Thanks, Joey duchnt@attbi.com

Man, I thought it was just my bad luck. We worked all day for 2 black cods. I've done well at Garibaldi in the past but nothin was happening yesterday. We're gonna try Newport tomorrow as well, maybe we can scare up something down there.

Two rods, 7 to 1:30, one 30-inch fish. a real bummer.

Newport was good Thursday and Friday but was real slow on Saturday.

There were also a lot of small butts out there.

Fished off the Big Dipper yesterday, 3 halibut for 22 anglers. Very slow. Somehow I was the lucky one and my partner and I caught one. Strange opener.

Hmm. I wonder if the Garibaldi Hali's moved. It sure was slow. I may get another chance. Keep wishin and go fishin. Tom

I got skunked Thursday except for a huge black cod and a skate and my neighbor only boated 1 for 3 rods on Saturday. :depressed:

Usually it's just a "drive thru" there. Your only obstacle is whether or not the ocean will let you get there.

I don't understand it. :depressed:

I guess we did a little better than most. Thursday, three of us fished from 8:30 to 2:00 and left with three keepers 37, 38 and 40 inches and 15 crab. Friday, four fishers fished from 8:30 to 4:45, 4 halibut 37, 38, 40 and a 45, one 22 lb ling, two black cod and 18 crab. We caught 5 of our 7 in the last hour we were there. Most boats were gone before the good bite started. The weather was best on Thursday, just opposite of the forecast. We were using herring, shad, and black cod for bait with 3 lbs of lead. Very fun. We went out on friday and saturday and got one 28" fish. I must agree that the fishing pretty much sucked. The checker said he had counted 7 fish for 41 rods by the time we got in on saturday. What is the deal? Hopefully headed for Newport next weekend to give it a shot.
