Default Ride at the ranch

Just couldn't resist posting, although it looks like most of ifish was out there, too. I'll write about it for Sunday.
We were about the last charter to reach the ranch...aboard Samson out of Depoe Bay with Lars Robison...Dockside Charters. Limits for 13 including the crew and we were the second boat to leave for port. On the way home I spotted a 12-inch glass float and got to keep that, too.
Gorgeous ocean and I was stunned to count 150 boats in a one-square mile hole that far at sea...looked like Sellwood about two weeks ago...The drift was north to south...I released three (one involuntarily at the boat) before keeping a 34...that's work! His rigs were pretty effective (five on at one time on the last drift)...two pound weight at the bottom (140-pound leader), herring threaded whole onto a really big hook (maybe 6 or 7/0) and extending off a six inch dropper about a foot above the weight...Bounced the weight on the bottom (looked like about $100 worth of Tuff line on each reel).
We were filleted and sent home by 12:30...and that was on a slow boat.
Pretty impressive...I still remember two years ago and a column about trying to get across the bar at Garibaldi in May...

Mel,

Like I said before, I found four of the big ones this year *in one day* and I've
since found about half-a-dozen small ones. I think it's just a glass ball year!! The
ocean gods are being nice to us and delivering these nice little presents to go along
with all the good fishing!!

Bill,

Lars is going to be impossible to live with now!! Somebody (you) actually spotted a
glass ball and got it on his boat!  'Course, it'll be the talk of
the port when I get down there tonight! Who cares about halibut when there are *big*
glass balls to be found on the ocean!!

BTW, congrats on such a good trip!

Congrats on the 'but. However, I think the big float might be a catch of a lifetime.

I, of course, was at work. I helped some students with their email, went to two meetings, showed an instructor how to access her database via the web, set up a couple of new types of printers, wrote a script to handle a special registration setup, and read ifish.

Jennie, we need a graemlin that expresses "kicking and screaming" along with wringing of hands and excessive frustration. Something with an "I'm dieing to go" look about it. ******, do you have anything like that in your repertoire?

Oh wait! Bill was at work too. I forgot that. You're a dedicated man, Monroe. An inspiration.

Skein:

Let's see how we can make do with the graemlins available. Hmm... you and I were

Does that work?

Bill: Congrats on your 'but! ESPECIALLY on your float find! I'm with envy... ever since FA found several.

That's okay, I heard those floats aren't good eatin' anyway We'll trade ya for some prawns though...
