Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Thank you to eveyone that participated! Your involvement is what makes these events so successful!
We had 64 teams checked in on Friday night and we had over 60 teams take their position on the starting line.
Fishing was red hot for some, ok for others, but all in all, it was an amazing day on the water!
Congrats to the CR crews for an outstanding job! With the exception of first place, they dominated the top 5 spots!
Congrats to Team Chasin' Tail/Brunewinn...way to keep the hardware in Little Italy!!
Thanks again to Jennie and Ifish...we appreciate your support!

In pic number 48 I'd like the full name of the guy at the head of the table, carking.
Thanks!

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
If I had to pick a home port I guess I identify with the CR guys! Yes CR guys on the podium and not a Grady insight! I did see a Striper there though. Thanks to all who had us thinking we were just out of placing. It was a dirty dastudly trick but the surprise was worth it. The weather was unbelivable. The wife was happy when I got back to the Hotel with the third place win(As I said we were convinced we did not place so she took our daughter back to the hoptel to sleep) but wished she had been there. Sorry to the fourth place team but when your weight was read we then knew we had placed and I klind of got excited! I think the biggest thing I learned was if you are fishing the event make sure to enter all the jackpots! Brook missed biggest fish money in Charleston because he did not enter and lost peligic (yellowtail) money in Garibaldi. Thankis to all who stopped and shook my hand and for your warm words. But biggest thanks goes to Bud for starting this thing up and for tanking and letting me trounce him and his lowly grady!

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Tracker...your face was priceless...you had your head down as he was reading the weights...then you realized what was about to happen and you start nodding your head "yes..yes...yes"!
Tuna totals coming soon and a complete list of finishers.
An important note...Tuna Time did not make the weigh-in because he blew a motor on the run in...came close but could not reach the no wake zone in time. So, when you read the attempted smack talk against the Grady Bunch, keep this in mind. Good news...2 new 250's going on the back!
The Tillamook Bay Boat House worked their butts off...can't say enough about Darus, Cam and Dean...these guys are amazing! They provide so much support for this event, please use their retail services if you have a choice when in the area.
The Port of Garibaldi...from Betty and Jessie working hard to get eveyone a slip...Chris and the guys making sure people knew where to go. Thank you very much!!
The folks at the Old Mill are gracious hosts but because the turn out was so strong, we're going to need to move outside to accomodate everyone. We all appreciate your patience and cooperation with the cramped space.
Back to the couch...

Congrats everyone! Sounds like another great OTC event! If Dick wanted new engines he should have picked a different day to grenade the old one.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Great event, great stories, great people. Congrats to everyone who helped put together an amazing series of events. It's sad to think we have to wait 10 months to start up the OTC again.
Cheers to the Chasn Tail fellas. One stop, 5 hours of tuna slaying mayhem. John and AJ have worked very hard to reach the podium, and deserve their time in the spotlight. Glad to see Dean put up great numbers for the CR and there is nobody that deserves to place like Tracker. BUt the hats are off to the winners, and the OTC crew that pulled this off.
What an ocean!!!!

I'm sure yous guys really enjoyed that one!!
The boys held that one under their hats quite well. Waggin and Chad both wouldn't spill the beans after I pressed them repeatedly. Waggin would say "oh no, all the numbers I saw put you at 4th or 5th."
I played right into it though. When I left the weigh-in station, AJ had just checked in his piggies, and knew that one more team was still ahead of us.
I should have stayed at the weigh-in station for all the remaining teams to check fish.
The suspense was much more fun though!
Dave has for years "just wanted to beat Bud." Got him a little icing on that cake too. Glad to be part of it. Keeping Dave from hyperventilating on the podium was difficult though.
By the way, on the docks of Big Tuna, the looks on Bud's and Chad's faces when I read off our total for the day was priceless too.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Nice work to the OTC crew and all who put the great event. I can not wait until next year to take what we have learned and see if we can move up the list.
No doubt the top 3 finishers have worked their buts off for years to make it to that place.
Thanks again.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Bud, Del, Mike, Roger and whomever else was involved. What a great time we had on the water yesterday. Absolutly the best ocean by far for this event and what a hoot it was to pull off the start line and look back to see all you guys pounding along. Well done once again fellas.
AJ and Crew, well done. 6 hours on one stop is an outstanding job. Never done that before even with livebait. congrats on the first place prize.
KEYWEST!!!!!!!! Way to represent bro and way to work it out and go the distance to make this thing happen. Folks Keywest is one of those that goes way out of his way to help everyone benefit from his knowledge of both fishing and electronics. We love him up on the CR and it is nice to know that someone up here has the know how to put the hurt on the Grady Target. "Let the bodies hit the floor"! Excellent work Dean and Congrats to you and your crew.
Tracker. Dude you knew Karma would catch up with you and it did. I knew you had won but Woody said he'd kick my can if I told ya. The gradies wanted to torcher you a little all in good fun bro. I'm proud of ya and we are proud to call you a CR Dog anytime. But we know you are a port hobo from time to time. Hey, gotta be where the fish are. Summer is only so long. Congrats my man.
I myself have to bow to team Seelisous for narrowly turning in a weight higher than team Cool Cat. Nice work boys. Had to rub Beerwagons bald head for good luck next season. hope it works.
Looking forward to next season. More tuna are still out there and mother nature needs to just chill out for another 5 weeks.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Seajypsea, Thanks for the picture. Better than the ones taken with my camera.
It was a good weigh in with Bud and crew standing on the dock watching us as we came in. I think it was Beerwaggin Dave that really dropped his jaw as the fish came off the boat! It is all a blur right now, though. The closed mouths and info depravation made what was a great day even better. I was so tired and was thinking of ducking out to get my boat on the trailer and ready for the drive home the next morning. Glad I stuck around for a bit.
It is too bad Jack was not able to be there to share in the fun. But it is only with a great crew and great teamwork that I was able to be where I was last night. And I often think the crews are left out of the equasion. "Tracker was on the podium, Tracker placed third." That is not true! "Team Just Keep Fishing" placed third! Let me introduce you to the third Place team!
Allen,
ifish moniker Need2fish, Caught his fisrt tuna on my boat a few years back. Caught a bunch that day. Live bait trip and we put the hurt on them. It has never been a bad day with Allen on the boat! He even took care of the Captains chair on a trip this year when I was down on the deck discussing things with the scupper!
Nick,
"the stick", is a friend of my sons from high School. He is the only one that I have seen throwing up over the side while continuing to reel in a fish. That one time I have seen him sick, but it did not slow him down in the least. The boy, now man,(gosh I feel old) is always smiling and a real pleasure to have on the boat. Things just get done with crew like him onboard.
Dave,
ifish moniker, Teton. We come from the same part of the country and in fact that is what got him a place on my boat the first time. He also caught his first tuna on my boat, I brought him over to the darkside like Allen. He worked the heck out of the butterfly jig on saturday. Plus it is always nice to have a lawyer onboard!
Dave,
ifish moniker, Killerbeee, not to be confused with Brookeee. (Sorry I just could not help myself.) Anyway Dave first trip with me was on the same trip where Allen got his first tuna. Dave is tireless around the boat. Constantly checking drags, and clearing the deck. Plus he weighs a lot less than some crew members! Hard working is my first thought when thinking of Dave. In talking with him about our placing, he stated, "there was no tention between anyone on the crew. We just got it done, we "Just kept fishing." Anyone that can work the name of the boat into the conversation as smoothly as that, will always have a place on my boat!
Jack,
ifish moniker, LQQKASTAR, although not on the team for the win was with us in thought. My thoughts go to him while he deals with the death of his Grandfather. I am sure he wishes he was with us and holding the raffle ticket Nick had. Nick won the GLOOMIS tackle bag Jack has wanted to win all summer long! We have more fish to catch when you get home buddy!
So there you have it, the ones who really helped get get us to the podium. Now it is time to make some videos! No time to film during the tournaments. All fishing all the time. So here is to many more trips out on the pond this year and to my crews to come. And thanks to the OTC for a great summer! And hopefully no more of this for a couple of months!

I haven't had an opportunity to compare notes with AJ, but will see if he want's to dicuss. If he caught his fish on bait, that makes positions #1, #2, #4 on bait.
We ran north, picked up some bait, trolled until we had a double on, and then sat on the same bait stop from 10:30 - 1:30 until we pulled the plug and headed for home (lots of fish still biting, but no place to put them). Boat was full at 38 fish. Going to definately have to start the catch and release thing.
Congrats AJ and Dave! Thanks a bunch to Bud and his team, and the OTC. The food bank, once again, is the big winner, with over 2 tons of tuna donated to the food bank

Dean, interesting note is that they did catch and release here too and the released fish did not send the others down.

It was nice to meet your crew (if just on-line) and doubly nice to hear you give them full credit. I just wish I had been there to see your face.

We had 73 teams registered and 65 teams checked in friday night at the captains meeting...62 teams were at the starting line saturday morning and were treated to a very nice ocean.
6:30 the Coast Guard shot a flare for the start and we were off...at the end of the day 43 teams turned in fish totaling 4,951 lbs.
Congratulations to Team Burnewiin for a great day on the water and a stellar performance.
A good job to Key West for putting the CR on the podium...nicely done.
A big congratulations to Team Just Keep Fishing, Dave you've been such a good supporter of the OTC since day one it's good to see you up there. Your very deserving of the good finish. Great job..!!!
And what about that weigh in team...Vicki Ruttledge and her crew did a fabulous job
Thank you to all the others who help put this together and especially Seelicious for a great job of organizing the Garibaldi port activities.
After some wrap up details and a little rest we will be meeting again in the near future to start planning next years events. I have some fishing to catch up on as well...
The food bank and those less fortunate are very grateful to your efforts and participation...
And a very sincere thank you from me.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
That puts us at over 13,000 lbs of tuna donated to the Oregon Food Bank
for the 3 event we were able to fish. Outstanding job by everyone who
participated and were involved. Thats just about double of last years number.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Well first off, hats off and congrat's to Key West(Dean) and Tracker(Dave) for such strong finishes for the CR boys! A special thanks to all the guys and gals that made this leg of the OTC a great event. A huge "shout out" to Bud as Port Captain and team for making our finisher a truly great event to fish "THANKS SO MUCH"
Before all the stories start being shared, I just want to thank my team for all the hard work and support they brought to the table.
Thank you to John Childs(Fish-A-Holic) my best friend and fishing and hunting partner of 18 years. Everyone says great job "Captain" well I know that it takes a great "Aft-Capatain" and crew as well to get it done, we finally had it all come together on Saturday and for all our countless hours and hard work I say "Thanks John" coulld'nt have done it without you!!!
The crew; Carmen and Jake you guys are rock stars. It was an absolute pleasure to fish with such pro's. Both John and I truly appriciate the skills you guys brought on game day "Well Done" and we look forward to more time on the water with you.
As for all our families and friends and supporters thanks for putting up with our time away.
Once again the main reason we were all there was to support the Oregon Food Bank. They do so much for the communities around Oregon & SW Washington and we are very excited that they will have some heavy trucks and a big checks this year for the upcoming season for folks who need a touch of help.
And finally our team is proud to call "Little Italy" home and we were glad to be able to keep 1st place only a couple of slips away from "legends row". We would like to thank our brothers on ajoining docks for their mentoring and friendships as well. We are looking forward to the next season already, see you all on the salt soon.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
AJ and John,
Thank you for having me aboard for the event....what a great day! Stepping aboard the "Porcupine" is a little intimidating , but in the heat of it we ended up using most of those rods....frayed leader, grab a rod....broke off, grab a rod.....just do it quick and keep the fish with the boat.
Incredible day...I wouldn't think a sport boat with limited livies could keep a school together that long.
In regards to planning and preparation...I've never seen a boat so dialed-in. Just glad to be a part of it.
My hat's off to both of you for the work you've put into it
Me....I bought a lottery ticket on the way home!

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Nice post Tracker, bringing the crew into the equasion is how it should be.
Nice the CR boys didnt find gold, and they can all out fish me as long as Bernie doesnt, ........ and didnt.
I am going to have to soften up on the crew so I can have the same boys for each derby. no more, I WANT THE FISH COUNT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!
A big thanks to Skein, Chromoflage, Corrirod and RonM for the surrogate 5th in Charleston, Chromoflage actually got to fish a whole derby there, of course it was on a "fishing" boat owned by somebody else, but nice to see him actually start and finish a derby
8th at Hammond with FshKlr, Jack (non ifish newbie) and Kabuki Joe (newbie)
7th in Little Italy with Eaglecap, Rob (non ifish newbie) and my 11 year old son Jack .
Fshklr was missed in little italy at the last derby, I hope he decides fishing is more fun than hospitals.
A good time was had by all. Now back to fishing full days, and no more being in by 4:30 deadlines

...hehehe...Roy, you aren't that bad, technically I'm a "disabled veteran", and any amount of "stress" makes me a little sore...I just choose not to tell people this so they don't go soft on me...I was a little sore from our trip, but I still had a great time...I was just thankful I wasn't balled up on the floor puking, now that would have been "embarrassing"...

Due to potential weather issues on Sunday, we were struggling to get a boat down to Garibaldi. Ray and I were going to take his Mako down but a potential buyers insisted they see the boat over the weekend. One boat down. Another crew member had to take his clients to Alaska for an appreciation halibut trip. Two boats down. Now the weather wasn't looking to great for a Sunday troll back. Ok were taking my boat. Then I heard another team was not going due to potential weather and lack of crew. Sweepy, (Mike), and Kingfisher W (Wayne), and I talked and thought combining crews so we can represent the CR after all the preparation that had been done to come up with a strategy. So salty brothers joined forces to help each other out. Wayne offered his boat, (ssswwwweeeetttt), and that Rivera is actually set up for pretty good Albacore fishing. Luxury accommodations to boot. The only thing we had to add was more kill bags due to the fish box was not large enough.
I called around to others captains that I knew that were going to fish Garibaldi, but decided not to due to weather, and offered a seat if they wanted it. So in retrospective what I was trying to do is leave no CR dog at the docks. Well it all worked out at the end. Thanks again Wayne for a great 3 days of sailing and fishing.
By the way we did come back on Sunday in 25 knots of wind and pretty good swell action. Good thing that boat has a keel. Team Engage also made the trip up back to the CR on his Cabo. It was nice to have company coming back home.
Bud, nice job on port captain and thanks for the warm welcome when we arrived.
Vickie, that was the smoothest weight in of any tournament I have ever been in. Maybe the Sturgeon and Salmon tournaments should take your concept and apply it.
Dale, your a class act. You make this area a better place everyday with your generosity.
Dean thanks for your hard work and dedication to our area. You number 1 in my book.
AJ, well deserved.
Tracker, couldn't have happened to a better guy. We'll get you next year on that 1.3 pounds.

As it turns out...he did not blow up an engine...but rather ran out of fuel on that screw.
The Gradys have a switch that shows fuel in either the main or aux tank. We both run one engine off one tank and one on the other.
He always puts the same amount of fuel in each tank (both hold about 150 gallons) so there is no way he "ran out".
He did not check the fuel gauge on the aux tank...never crossed his mind that he could be out of gas.
The port is checking the video tapes from the last week to see if they can catch someone helping themselves.
Good news...he does not have to buy engines...bad news...he really wanted the 250's!
So between all the bananas hidden on Big Tuna Marine boats Friday night and Dick's fuel disappearing...one might think there are some dirty rotten folks out there that need their hind ends kicked a few times!!

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Fuel, I can understand. But, from a guy who has been accused of shutting down the TUNA! bite along the entire Oregon Coast by just having bananas in his digestive system, the banana plant was over the top.
Glad it wasn't anything serious on Dick's boat. And if there was a fuel thief, I hope the bugger shows up on the video.

As it turns out...Pera Linn had fuel stolen as well two weeks ago...so now we need to change our fuel caps...we really need to start shooting these idiots that pull this crap.

Even the threat of bananas works!!! Operation Anti Grady Lady worked perfectly even though there was no operation at all.
There weren't any bananas on Tuna Marine docks, were there Bud? Cuz, if there were, it wasn't me.
Good to hear Dick doesn't have a mechanical i$$ue.
If it were ******** on the docks at night stealing fuel, they should be keel-hauled and marooned on the weather buoy.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Had the pleasure of fishing on Aces & Eights with Roy Lil Jack and Rob. Rob had not fished Tuna before but caught on fast. Let me tell you Jack is one heck of a hand and i don't mean for being 11 he is a hand!!!
Jack caught fish jigging Iron, casting swim baits and did his share on the troll rods. He sat up front with dad spotting for kelp or anything looking like fish. Great kid and lots of fun.
Really had fun and even did my part to help the longest rod fit into the cabin easier. But that's another story.
Can't say enough about the tournament. Was happy to see the people win that did. Would liked to have done better but am happy with how we did do. I am looking forward to next year.
I was really impressed when Bud gave out numbers at the captains meeting. I never expected that at a tournament.
This was another quality tournament, they just keep getting better.
My thanks to all involved.
Oh yeah, thanks to you too Roy for taking me along!!!
Jack

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Once I refill, I may have a fuel loss to report as well. I topped the tank last week, 365 gallons. Burned 158 Saturday. My math shows that about 53% of my fuel should remaining. When I landed, my fuel gauge showed 1/4 tank...91 gallons remaining. The gauge is pretty accurate, I log my fuel burn rate for each trip, mileage, gauge level and amount taken on. When I top off I'll know for sure.
I sleep on the boat once or twice a week...Oh the fun I'd have catching a fuel junkie hooked up to my tank. I'd have more crab bait than I'd know what to do with.
Dick will get his 250's...but 3 of them will probably be pushing another hull through the water sometime soon.
OTC organizers and participants, congrats on a great event.

Cause slips are harder to come by, livebait is a pipe dream, the bar sucks, it's a long ways from anything, your fuel tanks are fair game...but I think AJ and John know that's where the OTC winners live.
AJ, KEEP YELLING...you have a free pass on this thread...you can say anything. You can even hail boats by calling your name first , and call in another boat by giving a coordinate 24 nm miles away . WTG good buddy, you guys deserved this.
Hearing John on the radio was awesome...he couldn't catch his breath long enough to get out the numbers. I knew then, it was time to move.
Did anyone hear if Bobber Boy made it back to the dock dry this week? Where's my wallet? Where's my blackberry? Oh man, this guy gives me more material to work with than a Geo Bush and a Hillary Clinton love child.

Well, he looked dry when we delivered our fish to the dock. I'm surprised they did not have a life vest and a throw ring ready for that young man. BTW Dan, I think I saw gills behind his ears. Left overs from "water world" I guess.

No need for other PFDs, they saw he was wearing his Mustang PFD Flip Flops.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
Big thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put on the OTC. The Garabaldi event was awesome. Got to see lots of old friends and meet some new ones. Zeke and Stowaway, thanks for telling me not to leave early .
Congrats to our Captain (Tracker) for finally getting to the podium, dude gets excited often but I have never seen him so fired up. We had a great crew and what a day to be out on the ocean with good people. Killer Bee was very generous in giving his trophy to me and saying he would order his own, very cool move Dave!
After we put the boat back on the trailer Tracker was walking so fast to get that check back and show the family, that I thought he was gonna wear the soles right off his shoes!
Jack we missed you bro, but alll the stuff you taught me on those first trips years ago was was alive and well on the trip.
Thanks again everyone,
AL

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
This was my first OTC and will not be my last. I will do more of the events next year. Bud and Del you both did a great job. I will also make sure to come in with more time to spare next time. I was late getting to the weigh in but when I had my cousin who had never caught Tuna before feeling the burn for the first time, we couldn't stop. We didn't really get into any fish until 1:30. We only caught 9 fish and none of them were huge. There is always next year.
It is pretty impressive to see all the sweet boats on the starting line wating for the flare to go off and see everyone taking off at once. Also meeting so may great people, putting faces to monikers .
Thanks for all your hard work
Finz

I thought I'd have to find some valium quickly there on the podium.

Re: Official OTC Garibald results
I had a great time with the Just Keep Fishing team again!
Here's a big thanks to Tracker for inviting me to both Charleston and Garibaldi.
The crew Need2fish (Al), Teton (Dave), and Nick the stick, were all great to fish with. A true harmonious team effort....I am happy with our performance for sure particularly as we didn't have bait.
It was pleasure to meet all those that I had a chance to and fun to hang with my buddies from the Fish Frontiers team...
Here's a few pics:
Coasties rollin up the line before the start:

Yeah, I wish I could have been in on it too.
Dirty, devious trick!! It payed big dividends though. I have to say I was pretty excited too.
I thought for a moment about walking over and punching Waggin in the guts for telling me we were out of the money (twice), but we were having too much fun on the podium, I immediately forgave him.
Guess I owe you one too Bernie.

Great Pics Dave! Hope you know I am going to copy them and use them for the OTC video I will get out sometime this winter!
It is a great thing to involve the wife in these events. I have asked her to come for as long as there has been an OTC but she always said no! But for some reason she finaly said yes to the Charleston event. The warm welcom e we as participants got there really touched her and I dont think I will be going without her anymore. As we were sitting there talking about whether we might be in it or not, one of her favorite sayings kept coming up! "Don't sell the skin of an unshot bear!" A famous russian saying I guess! I am glad in the end that no one told us the bear was dead!
