This just in - Live \'but opener report
Pilar called minutes ago to report that they were at the pile. Conditions are reported to be "not bad at all" (sorry, I was half asleep and didn't get the details ). Mr. F, and Baitboy are crew on the Pilar today. Sea Lion is down for last minute maintenance - trouble charging a battery :depressed: When the guys finish with the halibut drive-through, they'll see what they can do about tracking down the trouble on the Sea Lion.
I'm glad they're thorough! Poop happens :depressed:
Happy Halibut everyone!

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Dang - Maybe I should call Ray and see if I need to bring a battery down, dont want to run out of stored juice on Saturday.
Think I will pull my boat battery and load it in the truck before I head down tonight. (beats taking the swim fins )

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Great.........I get to read all of these big blue live reports while I'm stuck at work. :depressed:
I guess someone has to hold the fort down.
Go get'em and lets see some pics of the carnage!
Good luck and good seas.

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
That's a FAST report! There must be a reporter imbedded on the Pilar.
Now that would be a job worth having!
Great report, Jen. Thanks.

I'm with you Waterdog!
Roy, not to worry. Call John's cell this afternoon and see what's up. (Or watch this post - I'll let you know when they can be reached again)
Right now they're thinking it's a wire corrosion problem or something simple. Safety first... they wouldn't take her out today so you can be assured she'll be 150% before she does cross that bar.

Miss B - You know it! I'm planning a "pre-sabbatical". Kids go to gramma's house for the whole month of July
I'll be hauling them down Friday night though. Maybe I'll get to fight the flat buggers next Saturday!

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
I can't stand it!!!! It's been three, count 'em, three hours since the last update. Call him! Get him on the radio! Send up a flare! We NEED another fix ....er....report.
Maybe I'm getting ill. (Notice I said "ill" instead of sick. Everybody here at work KNOWS that I'm sick.)
Skein, who is having a hard time staying on task today.

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Skein: I just called to leave a message that Pilar should call on my cell as my phone is tied up with WORK (how come the bad-word filter doesn't edit that word?)
No answer so I'm assuming they're still fishing the ranch. They'll probably call when they get back to the rockpile. That's about the extent of the range of Pilar's cell phone.
Hang in there Skein. I'm with ya buddy. If I wasn't busier than a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest, I'd be going bald right now.

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Thanks Jen... enjoyed the report. I guess this is like the old lunar landings with their 'blackout' period on the dark side of the moon.
Maybe in the near future John will upgrade his technology so we can have LIVE Pilar Cam broascasts for tuna time?!? If they can do it from Iraq, why not da Ranch?
That way those who suffer from the four letter word (ie w**k) can live it vicariously.

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Well, well, well... for those of us trying to live vicariously, how's this for a report... The guys are already back at the Rockpile. They imited on 'buts with a 36", 39" & 54" at the ranch. Said the water is just getting nicer and nicer.
They're working on lings now and will be headed for shore soon to work on Mr. Fisherman's boat and replace a seat on the Pilar (dang it - not again! :depressed: )
Drifty is tasked with trying to get Mr. F's spare motor down to Newport this afternoon. If they can figure out what's wrong and fix it, it will all be good. If not, Drifty'd love a ride to the ranch tomorrow... anyone have a cancellation or open seat out of Newport tomorrow???

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Roy - nope - I verified that 3 times. Spare motor is what they said and what they mean. :depressed:
They're hoping for the best (a corroded wire or something) but planning for the worst (having to yard spare parts off the other motor).
Drifty might need some help. He was worried about how he might get the dang thing in his truck with the camper on it. If you have an open bed, why doncha give him a call? Check your email for his #

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
It's a pretty good estimate for 'butts that 1"=1lb. That's a very close estimate until you get into fish over 70 lbs or so. At that point they start to get thicker and thus changes the estimate.

Re: This just in - Live \'but opener report
Just pulled in from Garabaldi, 1 51#, 1 22# and 1 19#, a quick limit before 9:30!
Also got one Black Cod and 4 jumbo Dungies!
We were the first boat back at the docks! Not bad for a first time out of Garabaldi!
The ocean was great and just seemed to get better the longer we stayed.
Here is Corrirod heading out.
Corrirod was still looking for Mr. Butt when we left, I think he said he was holding out for a couple of big'ns! Hope he finds them!
I will post some pictures after I clean the boat.
Any more reports?
