Salty Dog obsessive-compulsive
As the halibut opener nears for you people with big enough boats to charge offshore, I feel compelled to comment. I have fished for halibut for many years, both commercial and sport. I've fished from SE Alaska to Oregon. I enjoy it, but you people are truly obsessed. Your hooks are sharpened, your bait is ready, your GPS's are programmed, and everyone's eyes are on the weather. You think nothing of running 40 miles offshore in uncomfortable seas, dropping 5 pounds of lead to the bazillion-fathom bottom, and then slogging back to port in, most likely, rougher seas. Then, you'll wake up early and do it again...and again..
I think you are a tad looney, but I envy you. I hope you all have safe, productive trips to the Chicken Ranch, the Pile, or wherever you go.

Re: Salty Dog obsessive-compulsive
M-Y: Reminds me of the other day at work... DANG forgot my lunch. Had a real hankerin for tuna, too... so I got a salad from the cafeteria and put the usual fixins on it and thought "how bad could it really be?" and put some of their tuna salad on top. (y'know, the tuna that comes in one of those little silver cylidrical things... one that when you open it up, you are posititive you've never seen the contents before)
Took one bite and that tuna "escaped" my salad as quick as I could find the garbage can.
Hmmm... tuna & crackers for breakfast... Yeah... I think that's what I'm going to do... mmmm. Vintage 2002... gotta make way for the new season!

Re: Salty Dog obsessive-compulsive
No worries Roy - I meant... well, there's just not going to be any way out of this one, is there?
Eh-hem! Let me try this again... Slow Roll - It would be my pleasure to treat you to lunch. I'll take care of everything.
Okay, well... that's probably not much better, but sheesh, we're both practically married... mature adults...
(changing feet now...)

Re: Salty Dog obsessive-compulsive
I wasn't hungry until I read this thread... Now I'm wipin' the drool off my chin!
My sis used to live in Newport and had some commercial friends who'd give her tuna. Man, I haven't been able to go back to those silver cylindrical jobbies since! :depressed:
I've just got to get to the coast and find an open seat! Great luck to Pilar and the boys!
Tight lines.... Tim

Re: Salty Dog obsessive-compulsive
You're sure right there!
There is always a big difference between store-bought and fresh fish canned or not but with tuna the difference is HUGE
