<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">That's going to leave a mark! I can feel my kidney's busting as we speak!
I think I'm going to head out of Garibaldi tomorrow and then head to Newport for Friday and Saturday. Wife has a show to go to tonight and I don't feel like getting up at 2am to go to Newport.
I've got an extra seat for tomorrow if anyone is interested. Let me know.

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
Captain, oh my captain.
Hey Ray, are we bay crabbers or herring jiggers tomorrow? Or potential alcohol poisoning victims?
I can see an instant replay of the 1st May halibut day from last year on Thursday. North wind means you can run pretty good and mostly downwind all the way out. It will be pretty bumpy out at the ranch and then the butt kicking festival begins. The long slog back to the beach. My mate still grimaces when that day comes up in conversation. 4 and a half hours. A boat sank at the ranch and the drift was so bad you had to back into it and use 4 lbs of lead. I'll find a of Ramstrong after bagging his flattie with a huge wave looming behind him if you need a visual.
Remember the Rockpile run a couple of weeks ago, Corrirod?
But having said that I'm all for putting the eye on it and waiting till the day to see what the forecast says then.
NOAA has been wrong more times than I can count.
If you decide to run downwind make sure you turn into it and try to run against the wind for a bit. Do that and see if you can handle the ride before you run for glory.

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
I feel your pain Corrirod!!
I am heading out of Garabaldi tomorrow as well, unless the forcast really starts getting nasty (like it isn't allready!).
I will look for you down there, we will be launching at 5am.
Lets hope for the best!

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
Well what it is it is and we'll put our hairy eyeball to it for a look see.
I have the boat and the rig hitched, loaded and I'm headed to the beach.
Be careful out there and remember they are just fish... There will be other days but if we can get there without too much pain we will.
I hope to see you all out there,
Ray on Sea Lion

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
Show some backbone! 10-15kts is good. It could very easily be 20-25 this time of year. I still say that we will have very fishable water.

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
It's not the wind I'm worried about, it's the swell interval. 7ft. swell at 8 seconds!
Let me see if I can replicate the sounds of my boat for you...............
BANG..BANG..BANG/BOOM..BANG..BANG..BANG
I'm going to duct tape a couple of pillows to my butt!(and I don't mean Hali---)
John, I was thinking the same thing, both about our last trip and last year!
Let's just be safe about it and everything will be fine. I'll see you brotha's and sister's on the water!

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
FA-of course. I cancelled a couple days last year on bad weather.
I think the probability of them getting the period of the waves right is very slim, when they can't even predict height very well.
I rarely have seen waves that big and square without a bunch of wind driving it. I don't see that wind in the forecastand I hope I don't. Looks like it's blowing pretty good 315 miles out at the 46005 buoy and north to the 46036 buoy off BC.
Fingers crossed!

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
I think the 46005 buoy is malfunctioning. If you look at the dominant wave period it goes from 17 seconds to 5 then back to 17 then back down to 6, each within an hour of each other. It was 6 for 3 hours this morning then went up to 7, and at 1pm it got a bad/no reading. I have never been on the ocean when it went from a 17 second interval to 5 and then back again in 2 hours! Nor do I ever want to!
I think tomorrow is going to be fine.
And even if I'm not living in reality it's o.k., I like it where I'm at! As long as the logic makes sense to me that's all that matters!

Re: Ouch! Tomorrow's forecast
Corrirod - I believe that is the same issue where the wind wave gets dominanat over the swell. The bouys have trouble detecting the swell period if the swell is small and wind wave relatively large. Look way down at the bottom at the detailed wave info:
(tried to paste- but it's all messed up)
Swell is only 3 feet at 17, but the wind wave is big almost 8 feet at 7 seconds. The bouy is basically losing the swell and so would you in that wind wave. That Swell is irrelevant.
