The old NBA, 1977 finals re-broadcast on Comcast 37
Comcast Channel 37 has been re-playing the 1976-77 NBA finals between the Blazer's and 76's. I watched them in real time then, and watching them again I noted a lot of differences compared to the current NBA:
1. short shorts
2. tight jerseys
3. long socks
4. big hair
5. skinny players, even the "enforcers"
6. much more passing/teamwork/fewer isolation plays
7. almost no whining about calls
8. no visible trash talking among players - it probably was there, just not as much
9. fewer fouls/muggings
10. less star favoritism by the officials
11. East coast bias already there by the announcers - the "76's were a much better club"
12. faster paced ball movement/less dribbling
I just found it much more enjoyable to watch a true team game before the WWE philosophy took over the NBA. Obviously, the players are all much more athletic now - stronger and faster by far -- but the game is slowed so much by the constant hacking/fouls and the last 2 minutes of a game just drag on forever, it's terrible.
Here's to the old NBA!
Cheers,

Been watching it. I think tomorrow is the final game!?
I loved LUUUUUKE and Dawkins facing off. He should have rocked his world. Gross was smart to not try....Dawkins actually missed Gross and clocked Collins...lol
I remember EXACTLY where I was....I was 11 1/2 years old. Dad and I had pulled to two easy chairs up to the TV...it was a hot day.

I still have the ticket stub from the final game. What a letdown when it was over, because it was over.

Mauice (sp?) Lucas was fun to watch again along with skinny Bill Walton. How about Jack Ramsey's pants, glad that style went out.
Great to see the old stuff, how about all the old wrasling southern style form the late 70's and early 80's. Steriods and mulltes
