Default Ocean salmon-Heard anything?

I think I am headed to Winchester Bay tomorrow in search of the wily chinook. Plan on crossing the bar around noon. Has anyone been out of Charleston or W Bay lately? Anyone planning to go tomorrow? I always like a runnin' partner if I can get one. Looks like the ocean may cooperate and there should be a fish or two around. Any report would be appreciated.

Haven't heard anything Tom, but I did an ocean check at lunch today, overlooking Coos Head. I noted a lot boats around the Whistler Buoy (about 3 miles out, ~100' deep. A few were commercials, so maybe this is an indication that the fish are coming in a little closer.

If you do make it out, Good Luck!

Thanks MY. It's time for some fish to be there. We did well in May last year when the weather allowed. I just love that place. The fish are often in tight. We just keep our beheaded herring spinning around and seem to always scrounge up some fish. What a great fishery! Hate the bar, love the fishing. I ran a commercial troller/longliner off the coast for a number of years so I've got some experience. But the Winchester Bay bar still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up sometime. I make a point of never being outside when the tide starts ebbing but I'm always on alert when I'm outside that place.

I grew up crossing that bar, and it still raises the hair on my neck. I ended up swimming in the bar once, and that wasn't a planned swim. Just stick to the right side, and always take a peak above before getting to brave.

I have heard of a few fish being cought by the way.
