Favorite bow hunting pics
Too much negativity with my last posted thread. Now is the time to start getting EXCITED about the season! So, to bring us back to what we SHOULD be doing....not sleeping at night, counting and re-counting our broadheads, washing and re-washing our camo in scent-lok, etc. etc. etc. let's post our favorite bow hunting pictures from seasons past.
Here's mine.
My brother and I with a 5x5 he shot last year. My dad called it in to 15 yards and it gave him a perfect shot. He executed the shot like a seasoned vet and I couldn't have been more proud of him. It was another GREAT season last year with my elk hunting partners, my dad and my little brother. Can't think of two guys I'd rather spend that season with.
Only a few more days!

I like it. The only one I have( not my only kill), I'm wearing the same camo. Good stuff.

Re: Favorite bow hunting pics
great posts. I value my pics like gold. they keep my memories alive and i take a lot of pics.
This was the third morning in a row that i had called in the herd down to a flat by the creek with my cow call. I knew the bull was with them...after a couple minuted of cow talking, the brush came alive as an elk came down the trail, crashing through the vineys.(the timber was very open so i set up on the other side of a brushy viney hole for cover). The set up was perfect. I was sure i was going to bag my first elk. The elk was barking all the way through. Out pops this lead cow. She didnt like that she couldnt see me. she circled us several times, all the while barking. The rest of the herd stayed up above and let her scout it out. She was telling us to come with her and join the herd. I opted not to take this beautiful cow. She was old and wise and the herd relied on her.
I let her rejoin the herd, then i snuck up and around and got them in my sights. My partner cow called and they began moving in his direction. The bull was off to my right about 50 yards and the cows were off to my left about 25 yards and were going to cross right by me without seeing me it appeared. I drew back and was setting up for the kill and the herd spun and busted. I didnt get one that day or even that year, but i cherish that hunt as much as my successfull hunts.

Here's my best bull to date. I caught him "sleeping" with my bow. Unfortunately I was by myself so this was the best photo I could get.

Late cow hunt in the Wilson. I think it was like in 1981 or so. I remember our VW bus camper. It was a looooooong night with dad in tight quarters.
I do miss those early bowhunting years!!
Great photos guys!!

I was walking up the trail, he was coming down.
It was him or me, and no one was giving an inch.
This is where year-round practice really pays off!! (and a good pack board)

Re: Favorite bow hunting pics
This is among one of my most favorites. This is my dad and a buck we rattled in several years ago during a late season archery hunt. It was just my dad and me for 3 weeks of blacktail hunting in southern Oregon. I can't wait till i'm back there this year re-living it all over again

SP,
If I had vacation I'd go (new job, none yet)..... that would be a rush to go there for sure.
Sooslaw..... give me a ring, I think the only weekend the wife hasn't planned anything is the second weekend of season. Will your house be done by then?
That bull already had one arrow in him and he was just standing there wobbling around. He eventually turned around, walked 10 yd. and expired in a creek.

Dave,
From my vantage point, I could see both the bull and the shooter. The shooter however only saw the head (he was lower then the bull). He was simply waiting for that bull to step forward and broadside of the slash pile to make the shot. He was waiting for the elk to make the next move, nothing more then that.

Here's a couple that get me fired up....Headed to the eastside tomorrow after work!

Does it get any better than loading up the pack frame's when dad takes down a bull?
Maybe...enjoying a cold one with your dad at the end of the day..

Good times!

Re: Favorite bow hunting pics
I dug through some digital photos and realized that I enjoyed the support photos more than the kill photos. The kill photos are always nice, but when I look through the other photos, I remember what was happening at that moment - good or bad.
There is a lot of thinking involved before a hunt is successful. Here is a photo of me plotting out a course on a high ridge top.
I snapped this photo the night before I arrowed my Walla Walla bull. I was laying on my sleeping bag on a high ridge dreaming of bugling bulls. Little did I know less than 12 hours later I would be with in 20 yards of a bugling 8 point.
Mentally tired after a 7 day hunt in the Eagle Caps.
I had shot an elk the night before and was heading back in to retrieve him. I dont think I could remember a morning with colors so vivid.
It's always nice to have some horse power to pack out the meat. The thing that pops into my mind about this photo was the horse ride in to get the meat. it was STEEP. I kept telling myself "trust the horse" and tried not to freak out too much.
I love this photo. My daughter had been begging for years to go elk hunting. We had fun and we hadn't killed anything yet. I was glad when we did - for her sake. Granted, you cant be successful all the time, but we hunted hard and it proved the fact that if you work for it, you can be rewarded.

Re: Favorite bow hunting pics
beardbuster, those are some very nice pics. i always enjoy my surroundings just as much as the pursuit as well. Is that beautiful morning pic got a lot of smoke from a nearby fire in it?? smoke sure can contribute to a great sunrise or sunset.

Here are a few from last season:

She was 9 and went on several hunts with me. She will be with me when I leave on Thurday!

Opening day carnage 07. Neither are mine but hunting buddies.

My 07 5x5 on the last Sunday evening hunt. I got lucky

This is where my bull will come from this year I hope!
I'm going crazy waiting for Thursday so I can get outta Dodge!
