All of us would love to own a place like that, myself included. But the fact that an individual can lock up that much ground is really sickening. Makes me wish we could responsibly all own it.

Sadly this looks to be positioned as a development opportunity with a wildlife twist.
What are the chances RMEF, Muledeer Foundation and NWTF could fork out that kind of doe for this?

But unless your a high ranking board member, or big time doner, you still probably won't be able to hunt it.

I don't know - doesn't look like its worth a penny over 40 million. What do you suppose the monthly payments are on a place like that?
Let me check my change jar and see what I can come up with. I'm pretty sure there's not 42 mil in there but there might be enough for a couple lottery tickets.

Nice place! Admittedly, I'm not real estate expert, but I'd be really surprised if it sells for over $25 mil unless Kevin Costner or the like buys it. I hunt on a similar 30,000 acre ranch (admittedly a bit smaller) but just as beautiful and it's valued at about $15 mil the last I heard.

Just a reminder to all you to make sure you get out and get your Power Ball ticket tonight! The jackpot should just about give you enough to buy this!
Oh, and if one of you hits it, I want life time permission to come over and hunt for giving you this reminder!
If I hit it tonight, I will let you all know....

It belongs to US Timberlands. It was originally owned as Ochoco Lumber land when the big saw mill in Prineville was running strong. Ochoco manged the property well and didn't take every stick of lumber standing. After the sale to US they went in and got there inital investment back by logging at least 50% of the merch. timber on the property.
We have flown the area before and after the logging and it does not look anything like the photos in the Ranchlands ad anymore they took alot of the second growth right off the bat so it's not the great habitat it once was.
Les Schwab was quite the stewart of the land he owned he managed for his cattle, land and wildlife he would have never done this to his properties. If your driving east of Prineville on Hwy 26 just east of the Keystone you start onto the US timberland property you can see on the south side of the Hwy what they have done

Re: anybody have 42 million dollars? check this out
not to hijack the thread, but is this true that only high ranking board members or big time donors to RMEF get to hunt the land? I've often been suspicious of who gets to hunt the land they buy with their donations and why. No lottery or access for general members that I could ever find. I quit giving them money when I couldn't get a straight answer. As far as this ranch, maybe it will be cheaper soon after Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs go bankrupt too!

Re: anybody have 42 million dollars? check this out
Well shucks I was going to buy this land and while counting my pennies at home, I only came up with $41,000,000....or was that 41 cents? Just a tad short I guess. Oh well, one can always dream.

We are going to hold you to this!
Didn't the Antone ranch (also in the Ochoco's) sell for 30 million about 10 years ago to a woman from So Cal - to be used for a horse ranch? I believe her ranch has about 30,000+ acres, Several homes, a lake, rivers, airstrip, etc. I think the folks selling the Ochoco ranch may be about 20 mil over priced unless there are some very nice facilities on the ranch that are not listed in the ad.
