Heres what the weather predictors are saying for Stone Wall Banks: The only thing I see is the south winds, but the water looks do able. Keep our fingers crossed, and make many offerings to your Fish Gods.

O.k., change of plans for my crew for Thursday. We're leaving the dock on Wednesday night at 10:30pm and as soon as the clock strikes midnight:01 we're dropping lines!

Back in by 3am, little breakfast, long morning nap!

Whose with me!

I'm planning on going until the final verdict on wednesday. God knows the weather men are always right. But they sure didn't get me real excited with the report.

What are your "bottom line" wind/windwaves/swells for a go TC? I need some numbers to include in my prayers.

Well Mello-Yellow just handed me some more unfortunate information. I guess Port Orford is sanded in and they're not operating the sport sling. You can only get in with the regular sling that has your boat rings attached to launch. So that leaves the venture from coos bay. Not all is lost yet, so that must mean god is trying to save that 100 lber that's lurking out there. He's just trying my patience a little more. For all those that are going to try and make the trip if it happens email me and I'll give the general coords to the high spot. I'll also be on ch. 19 vhf and 11 cb on any days I go out.

Well, it's not exactly that they aren't running it, but if the swells are from the South or West, it's iffy, and if the tides out it's iffy. Right now they're calling for swells out of the NW on Friday, so that might be do-able. I've already started looking into the 'eyes' for my boat, but that won't be anytime soon...I think it'd be worth calling down there on Wednesday if things look fishable to see how they feel about it.

Hot off the press!

Thu
NW wind 10 kt...increasing to 20 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 4 ft. NW swell 10 ft. Showers.
Fri
NW wind 15 kt. Wind waves 3 ft. NW swell 10 ft.
Sat
NW wind 10 kt. Wind waves 2 ft. NW swell 8 ft.

If this holds, it's pretty good, I think. Winds are staying steady out of the NW, that's good for PO. Each day seems to get progressively better, and for thursday, the early bird might find decent seas if he gets out before that 10k wind changes.

Either that or I'm buried in denial...

I'm going to call the port here in a few minutes to see what they say about launching. All else fails you can hit the ocean at daylight and with only an 18 mile run you should be there within an hour. Nail some fish and make your way home. Sounds good. Saturday is looking better, but the next couple of days should tell the tail.

I just got off the phone with the port and they said the sling is pretty average for ability to get in and out. Low tide is noon (thurs.), so that works perfectly for launching and taking out. He also said the weather prediction isn't too bad for there either so we'll see what happens by tomorrow night. NOAA has already changed thier predictions once and hopefully again. My experience with them is they're typically very safe in their prediction. So P.O. might be on again. Come on hali-gods!!
