Another goat down

Well I finally got one after eleven years of putting in for points.
I passed on a nice bear (year old) on Friday as we were scouting. Saw some nice bucks, both deer and antelope.
Antelope are the strangest animal I have ever hunted. They appear and disappear without notice, they can be spotted at a mile away with good optics, but can see you at that distance too. I had several that presented themselves at 600+ yards but only two were within the 500 yard mark. I did not fire a shot at a bigger one the day before. 200 yards and 25 mph wind , My cross hairs were all over it but rarely on it, so I chose not to shoot. Shooting sticks or a tripod are a must for hunting in the open terrain that seems to hold these elusive animals. I had the chance to hunt on private property, but shot this one on BLM land at 200 yards. As I walked over to it, I noticed that it was missing some hair on its back flank and had scratches on its legs and neck where hair was missing. When I showed it to the taxidermist I noticed the teeth marks on its neck. Darn Cougars anyway!
Now time for Antelope steaks for dinner.

Re: Another goat down
Way to go Brian, that's a good lookin' animal I love the way it curls so far back. It was nice for Tyler and I to get a chance to meet you, your dad and your son and chat for a little bit. Congrats on a great animal, all the patience, persistence and hard work paid off nicely for you.

E. Interstate (10 pts.)
I put in for Hart Mt. for 10 years, I read the points book and decided nearly 14 more years is to long to wait for a tag, I wanted to hunt this year. It was good timing as I knew I wouldn't draw deer or elk this year.
I think I made a good choice. There are good bucks all over.

Re: Another goat down
Nice antelope - you will be ruined now from all other hunting. I had my first antelope tag last year and can't wait to hunt them again. Thanks for the pics and story - and thats a nice antelope way to go

Re: Another goat down
Nice goat, I'm still out crawling in the grass trying to get close enough for the Bowtech to do it's job. Got a new plan! But I've got until September 15 here in Idaho, and it's an over the counter tag (bow only).

Weeks of talking to people in the area, internet research including Google earth and sharing info on i-fish with people who are more knowledgeable about the area then myself. Actual time physically scouting 1 day, actual time hunting 4 more days. Advise taken from others, including local farmers and friends is equal to years of combined knowledge. I went into this never hunting antelope before. I talked to anyone that was willing to talk about it, and found that there are allot of people that are willing to help, if you are willing to put out the effort. On our best day we saw well over 50 head of antelope, nearly all on private property. We covered 5-10 miles a day on foot and drove 25 miles each day to and from our designated hunting spot. We hunted that area every day, then looked for new spots when we coulden't get within shooting range on the morning stalk.
