Default Mack's bait buster any success?

I bought some of these lures at the Sportsman show and I'm looking to get opinions.

Do a search using "baitbuster". I think this topic was covered last week in a thread. I have a couple, but for reasons stated before, I really don't use them. They do work though, especially if you run out of bait  !

I have two and they don't seem to have out produced cut plug herring any day of the week for the last 12 mo's. Let me put this another way. I haven't caught jack or better with them.

I had a long talk with the bait buster rep at the sportsman's show. He said to really give that thing some curve and get it spinning fast and tight. He also said if it was not working in our area he would come down for a "challenge" and fish on our boat to show us how they work. He also extended an invite to come to Yakima and fish with him to see how they work. He was a standup guy and sounded like if you have questions or problems give him a call.

I too have heard lots of good reports on the Bait Busters, but have yet to give them a go. I'm a fan of brined herring, but bring along some backup artillery when the fishing is so good that we run out of bait. Will give the Bait Buster a try this year.

One of the back-up lures I have really been impressed with is the Apex. I don't like the way it is rigged right out of the package, though. The hook needs to trail further back to get those short strikers. You can either use beads or a short section of narrow drinking straw or coffee stirrer.

Unlike a Bait Buster, the Apex doesn't have a good way to hold scent. I have had good success by saving the innards of my bait as I plug-cut them, and just letting them sit in the brine. When I run out of bait, I still have a bunch of smelly morsels to use. I rig my Apex with a snelled salmon leader and loop a strip of innards in the "egg loop".... VOILA. Yes it really does work!
