Default Possible Ghost Net in Drano!

Hey Salties! I don't know if Pilar is out Halibut fishing or not, but I have reason to believe there is a ghost net in Drano Lk. Pilar? Are you out there? I was out there (at Drano) yesterday and was informed about it then. I know the approximate location based on the fact we did our best to avoid it. The other guys in the boat each had independently come accross this menace in recent days and not only lost gear on it but graphed fish consistantly in and around it.
according to them and their fish finders, the "mass" is not solid looking and seems to have some "give" to it when you hook into it. It is located between the boat launch and the rocky point just north of there. It seems to be located right in the middle of the waters discribed above. Just upstream from the merry-go-round by the bridge. If you troll around? I'm sure you'll find it.
What do we need to do? Besides the obvious of course. What's the course of action?
Thanks,
Ragnar.

Ragnar,

Thanks for the report. John and I are chatting about this now. We're heading out for fishing, business travel, etc. for the next 3 weeks. Washington is kinda out of our "jurisdiction" so to speak. Haven't got any resources there.

Hang tight.

Meantime, we really need GPS coordinates..

Ragnar, thanks for the report. I've never fished Drano before so I am not familiar with your location.

The procedure is to locate, exactly, the net and snag it with a weighted line and a visible float. Flourescent orange or green so no one misses the float and winds the line in their prop. A GPS waypoint is also useful. If at all possible get photos and/or video of the net.

We can then show this provenance to the authorities and get the ball rolling for removal.

The two other nets found to date are still in the river but at least one (Dead Seals) is getting some more attention after the spring runoff is over on the Columbia. The other one near Lady Island has insufficient provenance and a difficult location to deal with.

I am obligated for the next two weeks with the Halibut Derby and this weekend for a Rockpile run. If this does not get marked by mid May, I could run up and do it. We have an underwater camera and could get some video. Alligator does too. It would be best to do it right away and get it going.

Who wants to tag and bag this thing so we can get the OSP on the case?

If we can get some evidence and a location, I know who to call.

Pilar's Mate,
I'll see about getting those GPS numbers to you. A good friend/guide (who has a GPS) will probably be up there on Saturday with clients. I'll ask him to snag into it with a lead/hook combo and then relay those numbers to me and then I'll give them to you. Hope we can get this ball rolling.
Thanks,
Ragnar
