Coast Guard Appreciation Day Sept. 13th
Ahoy mates:
Coast Guard Appreciation Day is fast approaching us. Bob, (Odin), has confirmed that the base will release half the staff from Cape Disappointment to fish with the famous 'Salty Dogs'. Yours truly, (CR Dog), is coordinating the open seats with riders.
This is our turn to show respect to the devoted young men and women who risk there lives to save others. I know many of you have been or know who has been helped by the Coast Guard Fleet. We are truly lucky to have good people on our west coast.
What were looking for are open seats, out of Ilwaco, to take this group of brave guards men and women out fishing for the day. If you can financially spare an open seat please let me know. I know time and fuel is hard these days but these folks would truly appreciate an opportunity to fish with such good folks.
Most likely the fishing opportunities in September will be as follows:
Tuna fishing
Bottom fishing
Crabbing
Catch and Release Sturgeon
Again you will be leaving your impression on the Coast Guard on what it means to be a Sports Fisherman/women and/or a Salty Dog. Please help if you can, it's going to be a fun day.
Respectfully,
Bob, James, Mike
Odin, CR Dog, Hoggemin

What about Newport? Aren't they appreciated too? I'd make a couple of open seats if the weather permitted.

OK a little review for the newer folks.
Each year we move the Coast Guard Appreciation Day to a different port.
Newport was a couple of years ago, and this year it's the Columbia River areas turn. There are 5 ports in the Columbia River area served by the Cape Disappointment/Astoria Coast guard.
So in keeping with tradition, this day of recognition will probably move to the south next year.

Weldon is a great guy and fantastic skipper. He just returned from a trip of a lifetime where he took the Port Madison up to Fredrick bay AK for the summer. He sent me some absolute awesome photographs of feeding and breaching whales and other wildlife. Class act guy all the way.
Thanks Weldon.
