see my other responses for that area (crabbing) Get ahold of some shad if you can. You're set if you have those other baits for the sturgies. Should be some nice keepers if you can move around and find a school. The sculpins can be bad in spots, so move if you bait is getting attacked.
good luck

Slow Roll, try Cape Dissapointment on the Washington side. It's over by the yellow can near bouy 10. Run right at the big cliff until you find 40 ft of water. You'll see the crab gear. Make sure your pots are weighted so they don't get swept up by the tide.

I use fresh seabass backs and heads when I cannot get Halibut or tuna carc.

Check me next week for Halibut carc.

Pilar- that's Washington water- gotta have wash regulation gear (float colors, markings etc). The OR border comes way back into Baker bay inside, but not out a the A jetty. Size/bag is the same for the CR estuary. Also- WA water is closed for traps part of the year.

At least this was the rules last year.

Don't know how much they enforce this!

Default Astoria Crabbing/Sturgeon Trip

Thinking of heading out towards Astoria for some crabbing and Sturgeon fishing but have a few questions.
Crab Bait: I have heard that smelt and herring will do better than chicken or a fish carcass. Any truth to this?
Sturegon Bait: Will be using smelt, squid and sand shrimp. Any other suggestions?

Crab Locations: Going out of Hammond (probably)around the 20 mile bouy and will drop traps in 20+ feet of water. Any areas I should be aware of that may not be worth the effort?

I have crabbed in Tillamook quite successfully in the past and want to try some new waters. Any help would be appreciated (for the crabbing or the sturgeon fishing). You can email if you would prefer.

Thanks for your help.
