Default Newport Rockfish 4/29

Took the boat over to the bay and did a little crab/fish combo. Dropped the rings out, then headed out to the jetties. We picked up a small greenling that we decided to use as bait, hoping for a nice fat ling, but to no avail. We mostly drop-shotted plastics as we drifted the jetty. We didn't catch much except for some 'sublegal' lings and one cabezon.

Are the sea bass just not in right now? Were we doing something different or wrong? any advise would be great.

oh and as for the crab traps, well, didn't do so hot on those either, just a couple red rocks.

I usually drift along the S Jetty looking for schools of fish. Once I find the schools I vertical jig for them with 1 oz. darts. It works very well. I don't use plastics anymore. Good luck.
