Yes, there are some in the bay. Pilar had some nice sized baits he jigged up Sunday.

Would you consider jigging some extra for me?

Please see the post I just made.

Fishplay, I guess the south wind is picking up. But if we go this weekend we will jig some herring for you too. Pilar is talking about the south wind now and that kind of changes our plays. We may wait until next weekend, and hope for no south wind. We will let you know.
We are packed and ready to go if that wind dies down or changes.

Fishplay, I'll be there with my sweetie this weekend. We'll try to get you some bait. Hey we might even deliver it on the way back.

We got about 10 dozen bigger than black label herring last weekend. I put up 7 dozen for later this summer. Not spawners but nice baits. Puffin has already traded some for Willamette chrome at the Sellwood bridge.

Fish the incoming tide by the coast guard boat house and have a ball.

I'm currently in Newport, and the weather is great and the herring can be jigg'd for on the incoming morning tide... the offshore conditions were glassy this morning... but the wind freshened up in the afternoon, where periodic white caps could be seen off shore...

Thanks people for hooking me up!

I'm also going to make a trip to Salem and hit Fitz seafood for some Sardine. They had some nice 12" baits last year. Maybe some squid also.

With that and Skein's shad I should be good.

The herring were biting before the tide started to flood this morning, around 7:30am... and trickled to a stop around noon...

Newport has blue skies today... light breeze early in the morning... but, really freshened up by 1pm, where the open ocean has white caps to the horizon and the wind appeared at the bridge to be 15 to 20 knots...

Weather turned foul in the afternoon, but the fishing for herring was productive in the late morning, to early afternoon...
