Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
I'm looking at making a run Monday morning and looking for any info on Tuna locations. The cloud cover has made the sat shots pretty spotty the last couple of days, so any on the water info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
My wife works next to the Charter office and she asked them about today. One guy said that they were out around Nelson Is. and they caught 41 fish.
I will be heading out around 6:15 in the AM.
I will give a shout on 78 and we will find them.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
The hot bite area today seemed to be in the area of 44 36 x 125 06 neighborhood. I fished my way out to there from inside, and didn't start getting into fish in decent numbers till around the 124 59 range, so keep goin'.

I never saw any jumpers, and yes they were hitting trolled gear. Being solo, I was only running 4 rods! Had one double, got them both in.
Ran 2 Cedar Plugs, and 2 Jet Heads. Everything got hit.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
Two of us on Miss Audrey found 11 until the thunderstorms sent us running for home (impressive watching the lightning hit the water...until you think about being in an aluminum boat...).
We picked up the first at the chicken ranch (didn't even get the third rod out), then went SW to roughly 44.26 by 124.50 (from memory and I am kinda tired). Two doubles, the rest singles, a couple of peanuts. It was scratch fishing for us. Heard on the radio that past the 125 line a bit more north (44.46?) was a good bite.
On edit: Mexican flag and zuchini were are top producers. Got two on cedar plug (center rod, furthest back in W pattern). 50/50 rods and handlines. Other certainly did better than us, so they may have better insight on colors.
Good luck to all of you that go tomorrow!

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
Thanks for all the feedback. The boat is fueled and ready to go. We will be at the launch around 4:30 am.
I will give you guys a yell on 16 or 78 if we find a pile of them some where out West.
I will post results tomorrow night.
Welcome aboard Captain Hook.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
Is it possible to be a wing man for someone tomorrow? We'll be at the dock around 5:30. Look for the PMP sticker on the back of the truck, white 24' Maxxum. Thank you.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
Do you have radar and a lightening rod? I would love to follow you.
Man O man , how can a guy sleep before going fishing with a thunder bolt every 20 seconds. If it wasn't so darn foggy a guy might have a good show.
We will be launching at 6 and if you want to run out with us, that would be fine. We plan of running somewhere towards Nelson and just heading west, like I am sure everyone is doing.
We will be in the blue 21 maxxuum. If you are already gone I will call ya.
see ya Dan

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
What a show today between the TUNA and lighting! Most of ours were north west of th e ranch! We had 6 rods hook up today all at once!!!!
We ended with 28 all about 25 lbs
Nice hearing you guys today! Thanks for the unidentified help I got today from a Salty Dog, as we hooked 16 fish in less than a hour!

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
We stayed close and fished hali but about the weather. There was so much static in the air my antenna was buzzing and I started worrying about lightning striking the boat. Kinda weird never have had that happen before.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
Try Catch was out killing fish... We got a late start, weren't out there until 930AM. We stuck around the 40 x 50 area, as it was producing fish for us, and I didn't want to leave fish to find fish.
This was a learning trip for all on board. First time for me in the new boat (the only experienced tuna fisherman on board), two tuna-gins (one of which has never caught a fish in her life!), and one person who has been out once. Given all of this working against us, we did alright with 10 fish. There was some definite room for improvement though... We missed two doubles, and a quad, various singles too. If I had an experienced crew (and i'm not complaining, I had a blast with this group) we could have probably ended up in the 20s for 4-5 hours of fishing.
They were hitting trolled gear, archer bars, all day. I had a "slide" rod with fishtrap out at every stop, couldn't buy a fish that way.
The thunderstorms were amazing... I didn't worry so much as the others, being in a fiberglass boat. I still didn't like the idea of 2 18' aluminum outriggers sticking out of the top of my boat. They definitely seemed to kill the bite though. About 1:30 or so, fish nowhere to be found.

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
I heard you on the radio say "dont want to leave fish to find fish", but we left singles to find more! We did and im glad we did! we ran about 12 miles nw of you guys and got into a bunch of fish! That was about 2:45pm
There were commercial boats all over that area

Re: Any Sunday Newport Tuna Reports?
we were at the 33 and 03..... got there late as the halibut fishing was just too good for us to leave. We got two before the lightening striking the water made us decide to run in. We had a lightning strike within a quarter mile of us that rippled the water to the boat. Reeled em in and beat feet.

Makes me sad / Glad to have missed it! We wanted to go out, but didn't have a good feeling about the weather, so we chickened out and went golfing instead. We didn't get in on the lightening and thunder while we were out, Thank Goodness! I really wanted to get out and catch some Tuna, but had to go with the "gut"
