Metolius Unit Bow
scouted a big chunk of the Metolius unit this weekend. didn't see much deer, a few does but i'm wondering because it was 108 there, they were bedded down all day. Anyone know where there might be some water up there, other than the obvious Billy Chinook? I think with the heat they will be close to a water source.

Re: Metolius Unit Bow
That unit isn't what it used to be, for whatever reason...maybe similar to Trout Creeks...I don't know. We haven't seen the number of deer during out camping trips to various small lakes in that area the past 3 years. I think the changes in the weather patterns have had a huge effect, and the feed source/water might just be the big issue too.
The late season hunts might be better, but archery??? I hear much better reports from White River and the Maury's. again just my observations and ear to the wind.

Re: Metolius Unit Bow
for what its worth i have bowhunted deer and elk in there and have found that they are really focused on the water. i know that where i have hunted i have found like swampy pockets of downed trees and standing alders and thick brush. they may only be 100 ft by 100 ft but they always seem to hold deer. several are always good to still be wet and full of deer.

Is there such a map that shows what is BLM/National Forest or private property? I don't want to trespass. Let me know, thanks.

Go to Nature of the Northwest at: 800 NE Oregon Portland, OR They have several maps and most will show BLM boundaries. Sometimes you have to look at several maps and decide which one will work best for your area.
