Default A raid on Englund's

I'm headed over to Englund's in Newport tomorrow, so if there's anything you need I'll try to get it.

I'm looking for halibut rigging, but you can bet I'll be snooping out the tuna rigs as well. So far the list looks like:

12/0 and/or 16/0 circles
Surflon coated wire for leaders
Swivels regular and chain
Snaps
Sleeve crimps
Beads
120# mono
Hoochies - big, glow-in-dark kind
Weights (various sizes)
Tuna hooks - barbless (ya listenin', Myles?)
and m-m-maybe a z-z-zuker or two in Mexican Flag and black and p-p-purple.

Then, if I still have any $$$ left, I think maybe a pound of Dead Guy to settle my nerves.

Anyone want me to pick anything up for them while I'm there?

Jim, some Stainless steel barbless tuna doubles if you please. They have Pescaro brand that is $34 for 25 but the quality was not there. The hooks looked kind of skanky. The other deal is the mustad barbless doubles with the longer shank. They get $85 for 50 of those.

I sold the whole box I got last time and did not get enough for me. Does anyone want to split a box of 50?

Hey- isn't tomorrow a "school day"? I'm fine Skein, thanks for offering though (well there is that 70 degree flat water I asked Pilar to pick up last time... musta been outa stock!)

Skein-
FYI Cabela's has the 170# coated wire for cheap. I think George (Taylor's Viewpoint) said he paid like $7 for 100' of it. Order the #8 double sleeves with it and you'd be set for a couple of years.
I'm a touchy touchy feely feely guy so I like to see before I buy, but once I've seen it....

I just ordered a bunch of the big Hoochies from Tyee Tackle today, so I'm set for a couple of years, or so I think.

Thanks for the offer!

Skein,

I'll be at the Brew Pub South side from about 1500 on. At 1700, they are having a big party with all the eats free, (Don't know if that'll interest ya ) But I'll be there to talk over any tuna problems and halibut bs if you'd like to stop by. And anyone else who'd be available, this might be the last time that us working stiffs will have an ability to party hard before the season kicks off, so come on down and bring your sacrificial gear ideas.

Yes, Skein, I'm listening. Been busy at work and don't get to the board as much lately. If I remember correctly I said I'd take 10 of the barbless tuna hooks?
I'm going to have to talk the wife into a weekend at the coast so I can get down there.

give me a yell so we can get square

Yeah, but when I got back this morning the email system was down. I just peeked out here and will fill everybody in over the lunch hour.

Mail is working now, because Keta just emailed me the same question.

Do you want to know how NICE it was at the coast yesterday? Do you want to know how DANGEROUS it is to send me to Englund's with the checkbook and no spousal supervision? Hehehe.

If Pilar and Mel don't need all of them I'll take what's left Skein. I don't "need" them but I can "always" use them!

Skein, 15 tuna doubles for me will do nicely. BTW the purple broomtails are going to be a big hit. I got 2 the last time I went to Astoria. Root beer may be a big deal too.

Thanks for your help Skein.

Since I "stole" 10 of Pilars last box of doubles- and John only wants 15 or so- Rod you can definately have what you need. I only really need another 10 so if anyone else wants 10 or 15 lemme know!
Somebody tell me what to do. I suspect Pilar and Skein will be seeing each other during halibut so I'm thinking getting a check to PM for the whole works and then letting the trickle down theory work it's course. Lemme know what's easiest?

Okay, here's what I count:

10 - Me
15 - Pilar
10 - Myles
10 - MissB
5 - Corrirod

The box was $84 for 50, so that comes to 1.68 ea. Pilar, I'll leave yours in the trailer next week if that's soon enough, and will send Mel and Rod's back with you or Jen. I can mail them too, if you guys want. That will save Jen or John having to play courier.

Now I wish I'd picked up a couple of those broomtails. Darn, I'll just have to go back over there now. Might as well get that little Penn 330 for Janis while I'm there....

It's true, BluBeast! One of the guys was kidding me about running up to Lincoln City for the casino, and I told him my money was a LOT more vulnerable at Englund's than it was at the gambling hall.

While I was there I got by Otter Crest Loop and found the little cabin with the wisteria hanging off the front. Looks more like Tennessee Williams than it does Captain Ahab, but it should work just fine. All I have to do is get my rig backed in. How fond are you of the two little trees on the west side of the driveway? (just kidding)

They've paved the gravel spot where Pilar does the Waltz of the Shredded Tire(s) but the bump is still there, so go s-l-o-w-l-y.

Did I mention that it was nice over there yesterday? Oh, man....

I know what you mean Skein, boy do I know what you mean. I'm a 10 minute drive from Englund's in Charleston. I have yet to buy 'just' what I went to get.

I wonder if I could just have my paycheck direct deposited into their account? Most of it ends up there anywayz...

Okay, here's the tally from yesterday's foray.

I got:

12/0 and/or 16/0 circles (the 12's seem pretty small)
Surflon coated wire for leaders (one spool of 135 lb, the last they had)
Swivels regular and chain (two sizes, heavy and heavier, but no chain - they looked wimpy)
Snaps (an assortment)
Sleeve crimps (to fit the surflon - but no crimping tool)
Beads (medium, glow-in-dark)
120# mono (nope, all they had was BIG spools)
Hoochies - big, glow-in-dark kind
Tuna hooks - barbless (a box of Mustad 21's - $84 for 50)
No zukers (all they had in feathers was sort of a rainbow and a few black/purple broomtails. I wasn't sure the broomtails were the best - you guys all keep talking about feathers)

Oh, I also bought a new sharpening steel for my knives and an inflatable PFD for Janis. The bag wasn't very big, but there must have been some helium in it because I sure felt lighter when I walked out.

Myles has spoken for 10 of the tuna hooks, and I need at least 10, so, Mel, if you and John want the others they are yours. If either of you don't want all 15, I'll hang on to them or find someone else who wants them.

Did I mention it was FLAT out there? Outside of Dopey Bay looked like a pool table. There weren't even any Lookenpeepers on the sea wall because there was nothing to sea (pun alert, pun alert).
