Detroit report 8/12-8/15

I'm not a big poster but since it had been awhile since I'd seen anything on Detroit I tho't I'd let everyone know what's up there.

First and foremost I targeted Kokanee but couldn't find them. Anywhere! Tried Kinney Creek mouth, Blowout mouth, the island, near the dam, mid-lake... 40-80 feet. Never saw much on the fishfinder except scattered trout - altho alot of those near the shores by the dam.

I did pretty good for trout, off a downrigger - 40-60 feet. Mostly down by the dam. A couple of 12", most in the 10-11" range. Didn't keep any since I was hoping to eat Kokanee so no pics. It would have been easy to catch (and keep) a limit.

Fishing the surface was slow. I have only the one downrigger so my steps son's fishing near the top was so-so. The water at the top was 66-70 degrees!

The trout are there, anyone know where the Kokes are at Detroit?

Thanks for the the report, to bad you didn't find the kokes. I too have wondered how kokanee fishing is at Detroit. I've read and heard of other people targeting the land locked chinook, just not the kokes.

Was out there by myself Friday and Saturday morning (sure wish I could have been fishing two poles). Picked up some trout, kept a few, released a few. Did pick up this one koke 6:30 am on a white hoochie behind a nickel/brass dodger at about 100' down. Nice 14" fish, unfortunately the
only one I found.

Perhaps that's the trick (100' down!!) I never went above ~65. I didn't mark any schools, maybe once in a great while a fish deeper than 60'.

I think if I get back up there (soon) I'll head deeper!

Look how bright that Koke is as well...he's going to put on another inch or more before he's done. Great job Russ... I know you'll be back there again before the end of the season.
