Default OMC/Buick motor Removel?

I bought a boat knowing there was something wrong with the motor, the seller said he thought the starter was stuck on the flywheel ~~NOT~~. I knew better than that, I have the motor conpletely unbolted and hanging on the output shaft. It will not slide off the shaft from the flywheel to the outdrive..... Anyone have an idea on how or what to do to get it off?

Cool Re: OMC/Buick motor Removel?

From what I remember You will have to pull the sterndrive as the coupler bolts on to the flywheel right at the back...
Unless you have enough room in the boat after you undo the engine mounts to be able to slide the engine forward about a foot...
Drive has to come off to get the driveshaft out of the coupler and you MUST do an engine alignment with the proper alignment tool before you put the drive back on the new/rebuilt motor or else you will eat the new coupler...
It also gives you a chance to really check out the transom for rot and cracks ...
Its been a while since I have played with older omc outdrives some pics would help Me ...

The outdrive is removed and have done everything the manual says to do including using a slide hammer to try and pull the ball gear and shaft and it will not budge. It's almost like the shaft is bolted to the flywheel or has a keeper shim, we cannot get the block out, we can't get the shaft out and can find no way to get to the back of the flywheel to unbolt the flywheel from the motor. Needless to say I'm frustrated everything I have tried does not work.

HELP!

Cool Re: OMC/Buick motor Removel?

Is there enough room to unbolt the bell housing to see if there is a snap ring holding it in ? ...
Knowing the engine displacement and year and model of outdrive and numbers would get you to the point to purchase or check a manual out of the library to see if there is something you missed ...
I'm kinda out of the loop on omc outdrives , Its been a long time since wrenching on one for Me ... The boat doc should have more info than I on this problem ...
But I will try and see what I can find out ...
Don't dispair its just a machine ...

Can't get the bell housing to move away from the motor at all! I'm thinking that the splines are toast and the inner part is holding them from coming out? One thing is for sure, I'm going to need a good place to buy some good used parts. It maybe that I'll need to replace the engine and driveshaft housing, that is if I can find one that I can afford?

Any one upgrading and have a rebuildable set up???

Thanks for every ones help! The motor is out and now I'm looking a set up to get her back out fishing, Good used parts and maybe a rebuildable engine would work. I'd like to go chevy, but not locked in on that if all the parts are there. With the OMC boot thing, I almost need to stay with OMC.
