Default 2 questions on a Yamaha T8 kicker

The first is that my kicker is not throwing warm water out of the tube into my basin. How best do I unplug it or is there a different issue?
Second question is whether it is advisable to hook up a hose to the kicker to flush it.
Thanks.

3 more questions to yours
1- Is cooling water exiting the tell tale ?
2- Whens the last time you serviced your water pump impeller ?
3- Is your thermostat opening up ?

Cooling water is exiting the motor. The motor is only 3 yrs later and it's been serviced each year. Whether the impeller has been serviced is a question. And lastly, I have no reason to believe the thermostat is not opening. I've talked with a guide who owns the same motor and he says he's had his plug with something and had to clean it out. Worked after that. I appreciate your time and thoughts.

Check your hose to the basin for Mud dauber nests in the opening ...
Those bugs will lay eggs anywhere ...
If hose is clear the plug is between the thermostat housing and the sink ...
As far as flushing with a hose I use a clam type flusher attached to the water intake on the lower unit ...
This will flush the entire system, if you hook up to the hose connection on the starboard side of the motor cowling it will only flush out the engine not the lower end ...
Do Not Run The Motor While Using The Garden Hose Connection on the side of the cowling , it will burn up your water pump impeller ...
You could probably use the garden hose connector to trouble shoot your problem though , just don't start it up ...
Good Luck ...Barney

You said it's not throwing warm water, is it throwing water at all? I think you need to throttle back the flow into the sink, otherwise flow through the engine block is too high and it never gets very hot.
At least this is how mine was explained to me, and why it has a needle valve where it dumps into the sink.
Good luck.
