Default Weekend update

Couldn't get out on Saturday. Hit the Charleston Bar this morning and it wasn't too bad.

The commercials are still out in the deep water (40-60 fathoms) and weren't doing too well.

Tried some deepwater mooching, E wind was too much. Moved on to bottom fish. 3 nice lings, 3 nice cabezon, 2 canary, 1 vermillion, 2 nice coppers, and the rest sea bass to round out to 19 fish for the two of us. Fish is fileted, boat is clean, I'm pooped! Time for some TV...

Hey MY, did you see us waving at you, or is there another banana boat out there? I think you passed by us at Simpson reef (blue topped Stryker). What's with all the Caby's? We couldn't keep 'em off. Copper's, Vermilion’s, Black's but no keeper Lings for us. Looking forward to the South Coast Halibut Flotilla.

Aw jeez, my bad! I was fiddling w/my GPS when we went by. My buddy said you guys were waving but by the time I looked up, no one was waving. I'll remember the boat in the future. If you have a VHF, we usually listen to the commercials on 11.

It was crazy out there today. We must have caught 10 undersized lings. All around 22". I had a monster ling on but it came off at the boat. I think it had the small sea bass I had on my shrimp fly in it's mouth and just let go. We got one real decent ling, a little over 10#s and one of the Cabbys was a monster. I hate fileting cabezons. There ribs are like nails and they don't lay flat for nothin! Sure are tasty though!

We stayed out a little long. Ended up bucking chop all the way back in. yuck! Took almost a half hour to reach the jetty.

Counting the days till Halibut! Sure hope we can all get out!

Mello- when you get those whopper lings on- get the net out. Don't bring them all the way to the top, leave em hang a little under the surface, They will usually hang on unless they break the surface. It's really common for them to grab a fish and hold on all the way up without even having a hook in them.
