Default surf fishing in puerto vallarta

has anybody done this? staying 30 minutes north of puerto vallarta right on the beach for 7 days and figured if it is worth it i would take surf rods.i've checked some info but what i can't find is if they also throw bait out and let it sit on the bottom. all they talk about is throwing lures which i plan on doing but just curious about the bait thing. thanks

Where are you staying?? Is it Costa Azul?? If so I'm good friends with the owner and went there last summer. There are somre pretty good fish located off the beach. An occassional rooster fish and a lot of jack gravel. The coolest thing was taking a kayak out about 100 yards from the beach and throwing a spoon or a heavy minnow lure of some sort and nailing the fish. So I would advise taking a rod.

That means you're staying in Villa Mar if I'm not mistaken. Very cool place. My friend owns the resort. I take him elk hunting or fishing whenever he's in Oregon. The fishing is probably best early in the mornings on the beach and then it moves offshore. Grab a kayak at the resort and go chase them a 100 yards or so from the beach. Who knows what you're going to catch. That's half the fun. From there I would try to arrange at least one day of fishing on a panga and the resort can usually line that out with little cost.

The trips are awsome and I highly encourage them. I absolutely loved the resort. There is always a cooler with ice cold brews on hand wherever you go and the best part of it is everything is covered on the trips. Don't need any money on hand. Free meals, beer (all you can drink), and transportation compliments of the resort. The snorkeling, surfing, and horseback rides on the beach were the best trips. The jungle trip was pretty cool also. Saw some crocs. I was swimming 50 yards from an 8' croc. Fortunately there was a small fence inbetween us, but made ya nervous when he went underwater for a while. Let me know how the trip went and good luck with the fish. Best part is, if you catch something take it strait to the chefs and they'll cook it on the spot. Awsome eats.
