Default Herring in Newport

Tried to go out of Newport today. We got to the first bouy twice and decided to go back in. We saw some boats fishing for herring so we decided to give it a try and got a few. I was not very good at it but we saw some boats doing really well.

Thanks for the report. Did you notice, was the crabbing any good in the bay?

I was there in a 19 ft Alumaweld with a couple Hondas on the back, we were mostly trying for fish, but didn't catch anything remarkable. We dropped 3 traps about 100 yards up from the entrance to South Beach Marina. We got 6 keepers, nice hard crabs, but when we went to go in, one of our traps was gone. We dropped it in 20 ft of water with a 35 ft rope, and it disappeared during high slack. It was an aqua green danielson square trap with a red and white float that had the letters B & K written on it. The owner would love to get it back.
