Default Poss Health risks from wearing Gore-Tex

To anyone that is considering purchasing a Gore-Tex dry suit or anything made of Gore-Tex you should read this first. Your health could be at risk! USIA has put out a NATIONAL RECALL for all USIA drysuits built from Gore-Tex. You will recieve a full refund or a non- Gore-Tex replacement

USAtoday - Gore-Tex and the EPA's findings

One should note though that there is not a clear-cut relationship between GoreTex clothing, and the "trace amounts in 92% of Americans tested." The article you reference even mentions teflon and "other industrial uses." So while I can appreciate how you as a business person want to avoid any risk from your products, I as a consumer would have to avoid many more things than just GoreTex if I wanted to avoid contacting this chemical.

The bisphenyl A thing is a good parallel. Did you know that every single plastic drinking water bottle, both the "athletic squeeze bottles" as well as your Gatorade, Calistoga, and all other plastic bottles, leach trace amounts of biphenyl A into the very stuff we drink? Try avoiding that one all-together.

Thanks for the alert anyway KJ.

Regards, Mark Mc the "fishing industrial hygienist."

Man- thought I was losin it- I just knew I responded to this post! (It's on the main board too):

I heard this too! If you eat 10-20 Goretex suits in a sitting it's cancer city!

Man - I'm so glad the wife and I are not planning on having any more litters of baby rats!

Going to be heck for all those high tech workers that have been wearing Gortex bunny suits 12 hours a day for 15-20 years. Good thing they get yearly mandatory check ups and so on!

Hey Mark
I'm with you all the way. But with all of Corporate America. We're the last to know. If someone wants a plactic squeeze bottle or cook there food on a teflon surface, then they are free to make that decision. But I as a manufacture should be able to warn my customers of a potential hazard so they can make the decision. I'm not upset about finding out after the fact, and it looks like I might have known this and kept it from my customers. I don't do business that way. I could then at least print up something letting people know so they could make an informed choice. Smoking is not healthly and each pack of cigs carry a warning. Guess I believe in truth in labeling. I guess if I payed a grand for a dry suit then found out it's ability to shed water was based on treating it with Scotchguard or Stainmaster, I would be pretty upset.

Thank for the comments

KJ
