Default Halibut soon!

Man o man,
Less than two weeks until the first day of Halibut. Less than two months until Silvers open. Less than 70 days until TUNA!!!
All the work I need to complete is overwhelming. Install my chart plotter, install new Garmin 240 blue, install fuel monitor, install second bilge pump, install wash down pump, install flush mounts, replace battery, replace wiper motor, change oil and fuel filters and oil, install auxiliary tanks and valving, and general organization and clean-up chores. Why does time drag and yet the necesary task list gets longer? I am only a little crazy...by May 8th it may be complete insanity.
WP

I don't know which is worse WP. I'm all set up and ready to go. Poles are ready and Hali leaders are made.

I just go out and sit in the boat...trying to think of what else I need to do. Ah, I remember...PRAY FOR CALM SEAS!

I think we should all come into agreement on a couple things. Things that will help ensure a great halibut opener.

1. No one washes their cars or trucks within a week of the halibut opener. (It always storms right after cleaning your rigs)

2. Everyone brings raingear (inluding an extra pair or two) with them for the opener. It only storms when you forget raingear)

3. No one, I repeat, no one promises halibut steaks to anyone! Play it down, "I probably won't catch one but it's worth a try"

4. If you must bring your gaff, make sure it's buried under a ton of stuff in your bow compartment. Leave it there until the fish is alongside the boat. Should you forget it all together, you're virtually guaranteed a flattie in excess of 100#s.

Jeez, where do we stop? 13 days and counting...

M-Y - you are SO right! I think you've definitely got the right approach there. 2 sets of raingear might just do it

Skein,
I am about half way through the project list. I appreciate thwe offer, but I think I can handle it now! I do have one problem that is perplexing, my fuel monitoring system says to mount the transducer vertically and gives no mounting hardware or any idea how to mount it! Has anyone gotten one mounted and which is verticle? (The picture shows the two ends side to side but I would think verticle would be inlet down and outlet up)How do you mount this firmly? I can see runn ing it in-line (I have a place the the fuel line runs verticle for enough distance)I would appreciate help from anyone who has done this!

I recently mounted one vertically I used a two hole conduit strap aroung the transducer with a piece of gasket material for shock absorbtion. fortunately I had a place to anchor it to before the motor well. I think they wanted the vertical mount to release any air bubbles that may develop affecting accuracy.

I had other lines there that I could just zip-tie the two ends to the other cables in a verticle position.

Standard horizon model FF41, Rod (I think) found a hot deal on it on some website, I'm still waiting for a big rebate.

Hey, WP,

I'm close by - how 'bout I come over and give you a hand? Lots of times just having someone else there to hold or hand you something can make all the difference. My payback would be ideas and techniques when I rig my NEW BOAT!!!!

Ohmygod I can't wait!

Do you have a good place to work on it? I have a 30x48 shop with one bay available if you need it. The offer is serious.

Skein
