The only good thing (if that is possible) is that when you buy the new one, you can have the old one rebuilt. Vac pack it and have a spare on board?

I highly recommend dissasembly of the bendics and then coating all the parts with a water resistant grease. And yes have a spare.

Ive got two, now three. All have been torn down and had the insides treated. It is still every two years take the one off the engine, put the in boat spare on, put the new one in the boat , and send the third off to get repaired and re-coated. The diagnoses and change out is just such a pain that I truly wish I could pull start a small block GM.
