Default Journal question

Do any of the Salty dogs keep a Journal? and if so what inforamtion do you record in it? I am wondering how an ocean log differs from an Inland fishing Log.

I write down the miles I've driven that day (for tax purposes), number of fish I caught,
approx. where I caught them (50 fathoms straight off), When I do maintanence and what I
do (change oil, hours, filters).

I also write little fun things in there for future reference ... like the day my fourth
grandson was born while I was out fishing, or the day that I found the four glass balls
(big ones!) while fishing Chinook.

Just put in there what you think!

I keep both fresh and salt journals.
They basically end up having at the same notes. Only thing that the salt notes have differently is gps drift notes, if the gps is on. I think everbody who keeps a journal only keeps info that is crucial to them. If I know the area that I'm fishing really well, my notes are pretty vague and generally only include flows, date, times, what was targeted and what was fished.

My little bro's father in law passed away a few years back and he kept a pretty good journal as well, except he didn't use a gps. Most of his locations were marked as "just up from the wheat field" or "just down from the tip of the island". It made for some interesting reading. You knew where he was fishing at, but not the exact location. It was interesting to see his tackle change over the years as well. He was never one to stick with what worked the last time he was out. He was always changing tactics.
